Boards heavily rub worn with heavy shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners bumped and heavily peeled; spine ends crushed, with some splits and chips. Limp boards, with some joints completely cracked. Rear board of vol 3 detached, and others loosening. Spines intensely mottled and stained. Lettering to spine and boards is faded and chipped. Leather bound hard cover with gilt titles within both a red and black frame on spine and a gilt name on the front board - R Drought; there is only very minimal cover wear/rubbing. Interior contains 288 and 282 clean pages, possibly unread with an index at the rear. Inside the front cover is a book plate - Presented by H F Head to Bath Public Reference Library, but none of the usual lending library stamps, although there is a small faded white catalogue marking on lower spine title frame. There is a pencilled 'poem' facing the book plate inside the front cover, which I can't easily read. Published in 1796 as two volumes in one book this 3rd edition copy is in very good condition.
