Excellent and wide ranging travel diary from the Rev Walker, rector of Dry Drayton, Oxford, and, later, author of 'Nine Hundred Miles Up The Nile'. The first half of the book explores, with a particular focus on etymology, the Scilly and Channel Isles, Corsica, and parts of Italy. This is followed by notes of butterflies and moths seen in continental locations. A long interlude then discusses 'Recollections of Continental Art' (many of which are unfavourable), before the travelogue resumes in Belgium, German and Switzerland. Despite the title and although we do indeed visit many lands, the voice, is chiefly that of the good reverend. Well written and exceptionally scarce, with only one copy in library collections.
