So haben denn auch viele seiner Arbeiten einen dauernden Wert, insbesondere Waltenbergers kartographische Tätigkeit hat seinem Namen allerbesten Klang verschafft. Die hervorragendste seiner Schöpfungen auf diesem Gebiete ist die Aufnahme der Berchtesgadener Alpen (bayrischer Anteil) und die zeichnerische Herstellung der vierblätterigen, in den Jahren 1885 - 1887 "Spezialkarte der Berchtesgadener Alpen 1:50.000", welche lange Zeit hindurch als mustergültige Karte des dargestellten Gebietes angesehen wurde.- Die Leinenrückseiten mit hs. Titelschildchen. Das Kartenbild vereinzelt minimal fleckig, sonst in gutem Erhaltungszustand.
