He was often known as Smack Henderson (apparently due to his college baseball hitting skills). Fletcher is ranked along with Duke Ellington as one of the most influential arrangers and band leaders in jazz history, and helped bridge the gap between the dixieland and swing era. Written by Count Grammont's brother-in-law Antoine Hamilton. Count de Grammont was the younger half-brother of Antoine III of Grammont and uncle of Catherine Charlotte de Grammont, Princess of Monaco. This work is illustrated by thirty-four etchings on India paper by C Delort. The biography of Count Grammont was first published in 1731 after its composition between 1704 and 1710. It is believed that some of the work was written at Grammont's dictation. The publication of the biography made Hamilton one of the classic writers of France. This particular edition has been edited with notes by Sir Walter Scott. Rebound in a red buckram library binding. Externally, excellent with very little shelfwear.
