With seventeen illustrations and a map (illustratore). First edition, first printing. The Cruise of the Kawa is the first book in a series of travel parodies by George S. Chappell, an American architect who also wrote under the pseudonym of Walter E. Traprock. A humorous tale of an exploration of the South Seas, Traprock's made-up adventures are elaborately crafted, complete with obviously faked photographs, fabricated news articles, and fictional animals. Period inscription front fly, hinges starting between signatures but holding, minor soiling boards and text block edges, overall very good or better. Publisher's beige cloth with gilt title, map endpapers.
