Extra illustrated, including etchings, original watercolour paintings and engravings bound in. Lavishly bound in later full straight grain morocco, with gilt titles and detailing to the spine, gilt decorative borders and dentelles. All edges gilt. Very smart, with just the odd instance of light rubbing and loss to the leather, one or two minor indentations to the boards. An abrasion running across the fore edge. All edges gilt, endpapers marbled. Ownership bookplate of Violet Stothert to front pastedown. The binding is firm, and leaves are a touch age-toned, with occasional spotting and light foxing. Complete with frontispiece, folding plan and thirteen engraved plates as issued; with seventy-four additional plates bound in, being etchings, engravings, portraits and topographical and including nine in colour. Including one double page original watercolour of Bradford-on-Avon, and another single page example. A beautiful copy, extra illustrated, in a lovely binding and from the library of a prominent Bath family.

Text is good. No former owner marks. Volumes are secured and consolidated in an archival acetate jacket. Warner (1763-1857) was an English clergyman, Curate of Bath, and writer of a considerable number of topographical books based on his walks and his interest in antiquarianism. The present volumes represent a first hand account of a wide range of environmental, cultural, antiquarian, and economic observations and insights. It also has a loosely inserted folded leaf, with the real names of 35 of the featured characters in manuscript, with a postscript: "this was all that I really can find out, but will do my best to find the rest".
