Red cloth spine, grey paper boards with red title to front and white puppy dog about to land in wa…ter. Covers are grubby with slight surface paper damage to the A of 'Tails' on front cover. Front joint is cracked causing front free-endpaper to be almost detached. Small tear to edge of title-page. Foxing throughout and a few pages affected by a small brown mark at edges (includes margins of two plates - although actual pictures unaffected). Still a decent copy of a scarce book. Packaged with care and promptly dispatched. Aldin, Cecil (illustratore).

First issue - actually it seems late 1911 as per inscription - and with 16 plates not ten.A lovely copy of this charming early twentiet…h century children's tale, with verse from Richard Waylett, and illustrated throughout by artist and illustrator Cecil Aldin.Aldin was best known for his delightful paintings and sketches of animals, sports, and rural life, humorously represented with this work's canine illustrations. Illustrated with sixteen colour plates. Collated, complete.The first edition; dates 1912 via Jisc and WorldCat. However, a former owner's inscription to the front free endpaper reads 'Mary Duncan 1911'. In the publisher's original cloth backed pictorial paper covered boards. Bumping to back strip head and tail, and board perimeters. Front hinge starting, with board holding firm. Rear hinge starting prior to final plate, with board holding firm. Inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright, with the area of spotting. Rust marks surrounding staples to final two leaves. Very Good. Ex library book from Stockport Public Libraries. Gold coloured emblem embossed on the middle of front board. Paper covered boards are worn around the edges, please see photos. Red…cloth spine binding, has a black square on bottom half of spine. Some small pieces of sellotape on base of spine. Barcode on bottom of first blank page, and pen and ink name and date (1912) and library stamp all on the same first page. Three large rusty staples showing through as binding tape has been removed, on second and third page. Title page has library stamp, stamped and a couple of pencil marks. 16 wonderful full page, humorous, colour illustrations. All text in large black coloured type. All pages, (look like they are hand cut) text and gorgeous illustrations are in really good, readable order. Please note postage / shipping may increase from listed price depending on final destination, more so for overseas buyers. Overall this colourful children's book is in good condition considering its age and use and has still many more years of brilliant use, however it's more of a collector's book these days and should be cherished and preserved for future generations, as this is a book by a true genius artist, who had an incredible talent for his art and being able to create such incredible humour into each and every drawing.
