The author, a prominent social reformer, saw major shortcomings in the healthcare system and advocated for reform, arguing that the existing Poor Law system was failing those it set out to help. The book describes the social and political context of healthcare at the time and discusses the ethical and practical issues surrounding the provision of healthcare for the poor. The author's insights into the relationship between poverty, health, and social justice remain highly relevant today. Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the historical and economic underpinnings of industrial legislation, specifically focusing on the role of factory legislation in safeguarding the rights and well-being of workers in the 19th century. The author argues that the unregulated free market system, characterized by individual bargaining between employers and employees, led to the exploitation and degradation of workers, particularly women. The book traces the emergence of factory legislation as a response to this problem, examining the specific provisions and effects of these laws on wages, working hours, and working conditions. It highlights how standardized regulations helped eliminate dangerous or unhealthy working environments and promoted a more equitable distribution of the benefits of industrialization. The author also delves into the broader social and economic consequences of factory legislation, arguing that it played a crucial role in improving the health, productivity, and overall quality of life for workers and their families. By providing a detailed historical analysis and insightful commentary, this book offers a comprehensive understanding of the complex relationship between industrialization, labor rights, and the role of government in shaping working conditions. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating history of Factory Legislation in England, exploring its origins and impact on workers, employers, and the nation as a whole. The author takes a critical look at the economic and social conditions that led to the development of these laws, which aimed to regulate the working conditions of factory workers, particularly women and children. The book explores the arguments against such legislation, which often centered around the concept of individual liberty and the potential for economic harm. The author examines the complex relationship between free competition in the labor market and the exploitation of workers, arguing that unregulated industries can lead to a vicious cycle of low wages, long hours, and poor health conditions, ultimately harming the nation's overall prosperity. The book also delves into the implications of foreign competition, challenging the notion that safeguarding workers' rights would necessarily harm British industries in the global marketplace. The book offers a powerful exploration of the economic and moral justifications for regulating labor practices, demonstrating how such legislation can contribute to a healthier, more productive, and fairer society. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
