Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - (Southern Music Woodwind). A notable Czech composer, Jaromir Weinberger achieved sudden fame with the production of his opera, Svanda dudak (Schwanda, the Bagpiper), written in a popular Bohemian style, at the Czech Opera, in Prague in 1927. Weinberger fled Europe under the growing Nazi threat and took up residence in New York in 1939, where he enjoyed a number of major orchestral performances and commissions of all kinds. One of these came from renowned saxophonist Cecil Leeson, who aske Weinberger to compose a concerto for alto saxophone and orchestra. Due to the outbreak of World War II, the premiere would not happen until 1946, six years after the completion of the concerto in piano score. The work was revised following the premiere and it is only now that those revisions have been incorporated into the solo saxophone and piano reduction with this performance edition by Weinberger scholar, publisher and saxophonist Tristan Willems.…

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - 'Schwanda' is a celebrated operatic masterpiece by Jaromir Weinberger, inspired by traditional Czech folk legends. The work follows the whimsical and fantastical adventures of the legendary bagpiper, whose magical music has the power to compel all who hear it to dance. Accompanied by the clever robber Babinsky, Schwanda travels from his idyllic home to the icy realm of a sorrowful Queen and eventually to the gates of Hell, using his wit and his instrument to navigate peril and charm his captors.Renowned for its vibrant energy and folkloric charm, 'Schwanda' (often known as 'Schwanda the Bagpiper') remains one of the most significant works of early 20th-century musical drama. The story is a rich blend of rustic humor and grand mythic themes, exploring universal ideas of love, loyalty, and the triumph of the human spirit. Weinberger's ability to weave infectious folk melodies into a sophisticated orchestral structure is particularly evident in the world-famous 'Polka and Fugue.' This work offers a fascinating look into the cultural landscape of the late 1920s and stands as a vital contribution to the repertoire of Central European musical storytelling. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
