Still well bound and apart from a moisture stain affecting mainly the margins of the plates the interior is in nice clean condition (SEE SAMPLE PICS) except the Windsor plate which is foxed. No title page, just the 20 tissue protected plates and accompanying page of text. The signature of Clarissa Churchill on the first blank, almost certainly the same who married Prime Minister Anthony Eden and became Lady Clarissa Eden. He begins in the hope that 'we are not thrusting ourselves too much upon you when we ask you to accept this copy of "The World of De La Rue" produced to mark the occasion of 150 years of trading by our Company.' In addition to describing 'a little bit of the company's past' the volume contains 'a new Atlas' which he hopes will save it from 'the sort of handling that out-of-date Whitakers receive!' The letter ends: 'No doubt in the years to come some of the maps may change a bit and so may our Companies!'.

The plate on the spine is significantly worn. Contains a 'family tree' section of births and deaths that has been partially filled in in ink. Tanning and foxing to the pages.

Soft cover. Condizione: Good. 1st Edition. FIRST EDITION. PROOF PLATES. 4to. (14.5 x 10.6 inches). Complete series of 8 enravings, each with a plain tissue guard, in the original printed wraps. The hinge of the wraps has split all along the spine an there is some chipping and a few tears to the edges. The plates are spotted to the margins but the images themselves, and the paper around them, are clean and fresh. A rare item, with only one copy listed on Worldcat, that being in the National Art Library at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. --- OCLC# 1008509280. -- More photos available on request.

Finely bound in contemporary green straight-grained morocco with large, elaborate decorative gilt borders, gilt corner devices, and central vignette to the boards; the spines ruled and richly decorated in gilt and with titles in gilt. Gilt dentelles. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Illustrated with two engraved title pages and 29 further engraved plates by Charles Heath after designs by Richard Westall, each with tissue-guard. Contemporary presentation inscription in ink to the front free endpaper verso of each volume "From an affectionate Father, to his beloved Daughter, Elizabeth Roylance Child. Cheltenham, June 29th 1825", with additional nineteenth-century family records in ink to the following blank. A good set, the bindings secure albeit with a 6cm split to the foot and a couple of worm-holes to the head of the lower joint of volume one, a 3cm split to the foot and a couple of worm holes to the upper joint of volume two, rubbing to the joints, wear to the corners, and some cracking to the hinges at the front and rear of volumes one and three. The contents with scattered spotting to some of the plates are otherwise in very good order. A splendid copy of Richard Westall and Charles Heath's beautifully illustrated edition of the King James Bible in a fine contemporary binding. Clearly originally presented as a meaningful gift, the set contains a touching inscription from a father to his then fourteen-year-old daughter, Elizabeth Roylance Child (1811-1841), who would later marry the Anglican priest and author John James Blunt (1794-1855).

Collated, complete.With a wonderful presentation inscription to a front blank of volume I, in which William Chafy, the chaplain in ordinary to George III, George IV, William IV, and Queen Victoria, presents this work to his niece, Mary Henniker-Major, on the occasion of her marriage to John Longueville Beddingfeld. The inscription is dated 1829.William Chafy served as Master of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge from 1813 until his death, and in 1813 and 1829 he was vice-chancellor of the university.As identified by Jisc, while the title page dates these volumes with 1815, each plate bears the date 1821.In sumptuous contemporary straight grain purple morocco bindings, with extensive blind tooling and gilt tooling, and with a central gilt design of a Cathedral alter with architectural backing to each board.
