Covers exhibit light wear and bumping on corners and spine ends. Light wear on bottom edges and hinges. Light shelf wear and soiling to covers. Light soiling and yellowing on page ends. Inside front and back covers on both volumes has been replaced. Inside front hinge of Vol.II is cracked but still firmly attached. Hinges are tight in Vol.I. Text in both volumes is yellowed due to age. Otherwise clean and unmarked. Volume I starts with a "History of the Greek School Philosophy, with Reference to Physical Science. Volume I continues with chapters detailing Greek astronomy, a history of Physical Science in the Middle Ages and a history of Mechanics, including Fluid Mechanics. Continuing with History of Physical Astronomy with a sequel to the Epoch of Newton and discoveries added to the Newtonian Theory. Volume II starts with the History of Acoustics. Continues with History of Optics, Formal and Physical. Book X is the History of Thermotics and Atmology continuing with the History of Electricity, History of Magnetism. There is a History of Galvanism, History of Chemistry, History of Mineralogy and a History of Systematic Botany and Zoology. Continuing with History of Physiology and Comparative Anatomy. Finishing with a History of Geology. All books are individually examined and described. Never ex-library unless explicitly described as such.

The only thing about this set that detracts greatly is paper tape (tan, dried, brittle, failing) along 4 of the 6 hinges (light brown endpapers). (Slight gutter pull, as well, between ffep and half-title of volume one). Small bookplate on each volume's front pastedown (James D. Gaff). (A google search found him to be a "General Medical Practioner, MD & CM of Glasgow University"). Tiny, yellow bookshop label to upper corner of front pastedown of volume one (partially torn off, but appears to be M. Ogle, Glasgow).
