Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. 2nd Edition. Estonian language. Octavo 15 x 22 cm. Weight 200 gr. Wrappers, 179 pp. The book is in Very Good condition without any visible defects, losses, remarks and stains. Frayed cover edges, creases across cover corners, small piece broken off of front cover bottom right corner; internally occasional fingerprints. Current book is the author's first collection of short stories written in a village realism style. Seven stories about village life according to critics' estimate considered the best writer's achievement related to the early creation period. The book was firstly given for publishing in 1918, but part of the book was lost during the war. So the book came out in summer of 1919 under the pseudonym Mart Karus in very limited print run and included five novels. Present second enlarged edition (7 novels) in addition to original modernist cover design is greatly illustrated with 10 full-page graphic drawings by Eduard Wiiralt. Illustrations are created in artist original style with strong grotesque elements. Albert Kivikas (1898-1978) became one of the few writers in Estonia to experiment with futurism. His early pieces were meant to irritate the petit bourgeois. Later Kivikas, a sensitive perceiver of the changes in the social and aesthetic realm, became the eager supporter of and campaigner for neo-realism. He abandoned his bohemian convictions and devoted himself to the Republic. His best works are novels and short stories dealing with war and social problems in the rural environment. Eduard Wiiralt (18981954) is considered as the most remarkable master of Estonian graphic art in the first half of his century. home and abroad. His works were displayed at international shows of graphics. Wiiralt's art always includes a play of symbols, wicked exhaustion, apocalyptic apparitions, a battle with sensuality and a concession thereto, inspiration, and imagination. An imagination that functions through a trained He acquired recognition both at hand and genius.

Soft cover. Condizione: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Estonian language. Octavo 13 x 20 cm. Weight 140 gr. Wrappers, 77 [1] pp. Print run 600 copies. The Book is in Near Fine condition without any visible defects, losses, remarks and stains. Cover corners show slight fraying, soft creases across cover corners, one small brown stain on the back cover; internally very few occasional foxing spots. Current the fourth poetry collection includes poems written during 1921-1926. Here the main subjects of author s previous works, such as candid love motives and childhood memories have been replaced with social problems depiction. Pessimism of young romantic poet arose after turning his gaze to the brutal egoism ideology of todays society, which is seeking immediate delights without thinking of eternal things. That s why death and oblivison moods became prevalent in his verse, which sounds not overly morbid, but rather solemn. Poems are written in Võro dialect. This peculiar literary production was highly praised by critics and considered one of the best Adson s works. Book s great grotesque cover design by Wiiralt. Artur Adson (1889 1977) was an Estonian poet, writer and theatre critic. In 1927 he got married with most greatest poetess of Estonia Marie Under. From 1917 Adson was a member of the Siuru literary movement, which exerted great influence on the Estonian literature. Later Adson was also active in the Tarapita movement. He is considered one of the most outstanding poets in the Võro language of southern Estonia. Great graphic cover design with elements of grotesque by Wiiralt. Eduard Wiiralt (1898 1954) is considered as the most remarkable master of Estonian graphic art in the first half of his century. With his unique and easily recognisable style, which could be characterized as grotesque, surrealism and sexuality, artist has acquired recognition both at home and abroad.

Creases across front cover corners, wrapped fore-edge of the cover, coves shows minor foxing; internally some occasional foxing spots and few fingerprints. With a current collection to the Under's poetry came a new kind of optimism after feelings of pain, delirium, and suffering inspired by the horrors of War. Poems' pantheistic tenderness was compared to William Blake and, philosophically, Lao Ze. Although, German Expressionism influence of post-war period still remains strong, new poetry is tending to the life and light. In the brilliant nature lyric are crystallized the main features of Undery's talent - having become classically calm poetry form, rich humanness born of the contrary feelings of happiness and worry proper to human nature, which expressed through the depictions of nature mood. Under's poems accompanied with amazing art deco cover design and eight illustrations on separate pages by Eduard Wiiralt. Literary critic Hanno Kompus has written that, emergence of this book remained "just one creative meeting of two great and unique." Illustrations were made while the artist was living in Paris, where his Expressionist sensibility converted into spirits of Art Deco and New Objectivity. Marie Under (1883-1980) the greatest and most beloved Estonian poets of the 20th century. Under was many times a nominee for the Nobel Prize for Literature. Her poems have all become classics of Estonian poetry. Under changed poetic tradition radically several times. In her youthful lyrics of the Siuru movement period her sensual celebration of erotic love made her the best-known Estonian neoromantic poet. The first turn in her poetry was in 1920, when death began to dominate over the beautiful growth of life, and the author cried for justice, help and pity, creating the most realistic and sharply drawn city scenes in Estonian poetry. After the First World War, expressionist German poetry had a great impact on her with its intensity and strength of image, prevailed feelings of pain, delirium, and suffering. At th end of 1920s dark visions became varied with short moments of all-embracing love, and the form of these lyrics gives them a dimension of eternity. During the early years of World War II, when Estonia was taken over by the USSR and then occupied by the Germany, Under wrote about the suffering and the resistance of her people. In 1944 she went nto exile to Sweden. Eduard Wiiralt (1898-1954) is considered as the most remarkable master of Estonian graphic art, best of all known for his original surrealist works.
