This volume includes: The Commentaries of Caesar, Translated into English; to which is Prefixed a Discourse Concerning the Roman Art of War, 1832. The collected first-hand accounts of Julius Caesar's time at war, covering the events of various battles and intrigues that took place during these conquests. With a discourse concerning the Roman art of war, written by William Duncan, a British historian. The History of the Conspiracy of Catiline, and the Jugurthine War, 1832. Written by Gaius Sallustius Crispus, a historian and politician of the Roman Republic from a plebeian family. Sallust became a partisan of Julius Caesar, circa 50s BC, and is the earliest known Latin-language Roman historian with surviving works to his name, of which Conspiracy of Catiline on the eponymous conspiracy, The Jugurthine War on the eponymous war, and the Histories (of which only fragments survive) remain extant. Translated by William Rose, a British translator. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine and board edges with the odd small mark to the cloth. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting. Age toning to the endpapers. Minor worming to the front few pages at the hinge. Very Good. None (illustratore). book.
