Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the art of landscape gardening, offering practical guidance and insightful observations for those seeking to enhance the beauty and character of their estates. Rooted in the principles of landscape painting, the author advocates for a harmonious blend of art and nature, drawing inspiration from both classical and contemporary design philosophies. The text explores the historical evolution of landscape gardening, contrasting the formal, structured gardens of the past with the more naturalistic approaches that gained prominence in recent centuries. The author critically examines the merits and drawbacks of each style, emphasizing the importance of understanding the unique characteristics of a particular landscape and tailoring improvements accordingly. Central to the book's philosophy is the concept of "character" in landscape design. The author identifies various landscape typesââ âgrand, romantic, beautiful, picturesque, and ruralââ âand discusses appropriate architectural styles and design elements for each. Practical considerations such as house placement, approaches, and the integration of terraces and other architectural features are explored in detail, providing readers with a comprehensive framework for creating a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing environment. Ultimately, this book serves as a testament to the transformative power of landscape gardening, demonstrating how thoughtful design can elevate not only the visual appeal of an estate but also the experiences and emotions it evokes in its inhabitants and visitors. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

After being discharged from this post, Gilpin became a successful landscape gardener and advisor to the nobility. His approach to landscape gardening was influenced by painting and Sir Uvedale Price's Essay on the Picturesque (1794). Gilpin's Hints, published in 1832, advocates that landscapes should be improved by the 'taste' of a painter's eye, and artificial buildings united with their surroundings. Aggiungi al carrelloCondizione: Good. Gilpin was a disciple of Uvedale Price, and a leading exponent of the picturesque in the early 18th century. To Gilpin an essential part of the landscape "improver's" duty is to explain to the owner the principles of the suggested improvements and aid in the understanding and correct use of taste. He argues that taste, in its contemporary simplified form, often has little or no relation to the character of the different places to which it is applied and violates the picturesque principles.
