The second edition of this humorous and popular burlesque poem, about country life and the Cotswolds Games, written by the influential poet William Somervile. The second edition of this work, an uncommon find. This second edition was published in the same year as the first. There was seven-hundred and fifty copies of the second edition printed. ESTC citation number T85976. Collated, complete, with the signatures running as a4, b2, B-I4. Disbound, with a backstrip present. 'Hobbinol' is a burlesque poem, written in blank verse. It is a mock-heroic poem, dealing with country life in a very humorous manner. The poem describes the Cotswold Games, an annual public celebration of games and sports held in the Cotswolds of England. The poem went through a few editions after being published, but Samuel Johnson was not an admirer of it, not finding the subject matter or the meter appealing. Written by William Somerville, an English poet who is best known for his work 'The Chace'. Disbound, with a backstrip present. Externally, the outer leaves are bright with only a couple of light marks. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with only a couple of light spots and marks.
