Jackson in Grolier 75 (p210) says " Probably never again will an American collector be able to gather so many remarkable rarities in so many fields." Dickinson (p. 340) says "The enthusiastic level of bidding had not been seen since the Jerome Kern sale of 1929. Wilmerding's intelligent approach to collecting was justified by results in the auction rooms." Laid in is a blank printed bid sheet. Bound in the original wraps, printed in black, with "Yapp edges." So-called after the London bookseller who invented the style about 1860 (per ABC FOR BOOK COLLECTORS) Yapp edges overlap the edges of a book on 3 sides, and are thus understandably a little frayed. 7.25" wide by 10.25" tall. .
