A terriffic and inspiring biography of Presbyterian missionary and engineer Alexander Murdoch Mackay (1849 - 1890), who designed and brought the first steam- driven boat to Lake Victoria (think African Queen), and who died at the age of 41 as much from the chaotic despotism of Ugandan potentates as from malaria. Written for young readers under his sister's name. This printing, which lacks illustrations and advertisements, dates from the early '40s, when it was likely subject to wartime restrictions. It was a 1943 book token to a reader in Catford "for answers to Questions in Glad Tidings magazine". 160 pages, with Preface by Rev. C. T. Wilson [1893]. …
