Fresh from her training in England in 1933, the author / ARTIST followed her young husband to the shores of Hudson Bay in Canada. They were they to act as missionaries but also served as dentists, educators, undertakers and midwife. The `author' captures here 63 pages of watercolour of her impressions of the LAND and the people. First half is landscape and portraiture, SECOND half is an anthropological rendering of typical mens' and womens' fancy garments. Text only in introduction. Cond : Boards are sky blue w/ black lettering on spine only. D.J. is white with a reproduction of the Marsh painting `Gathering moss in the summer '. Volume is bright, tight and clean in all aspects - flaw is two dents in front board. D.J. is similar with tiny tatters at spine top. Both spines fine, colours bright. No names , marks, tears, creases nor folds. Minimal soiling. Giftable !! Quote (p. 10)(introduction) : " Sometimes in mid-July, while painting along the coastline, my brush would suddenly become unmanageable and the painting would look as if a stone had broken a pane of glass across the sky. The painting had frozen. " Size: Octavo.

The story of Donald Marsh, a missionary who spent eighteen years among the Padlimiut, also called the Caribou Eskimos, on the western shore of Hudson Bay. Marsh made a point of recording the customs of the Padlimiut; marriages, shamanistic beliefs, hunting techniques, igloo-building, clothing, dogsledding, dancing, etc. There are black and white photographs throughout the text. A near fine copy in dust jacket. Marsh died suddenly, and his wife spent ten years editing his papers and photographs, to bring this book to life. Signed by Author(s).
