Neu -Caspar Scheuren (Aachen 1810-1887 Düsseldorf) erhielt seine erste künstlerische Unterweisung von seinem Vater, dann 1829-1834 an der Düsseldorfer Akademie, wo ihn vor allem die Landschaftsmalerei von J. W. Schirmer und C. F. Lessing beeindruckte. Entstanden zunächst gefühlvoll-verträumte Landschaf…ten, in denen sich unmittelbare Naturbeobachtung mit romantischer Tradition zu einem eigenen Stil verbanden, erfreuten sich insbesondere seine seit Ende der 1840er Jahre in großer Zahl entstehenden Druckgrafiken größter Beliebtheit. Wie kaum ein anderer Vertreter der Düsseldorfer Schule verstand es Scheuren, für die unterschiedlichsten Bedürfnisse und Gelegenheiten komplexe grafische Lösungen zu erfinden. Seine Fantasie war schier unerschöpflich. Sie brachte Buchillustrationen, Diplome, Urkunden, Werbedrucksachen und vor allem die in ihrer Zeit berühmten, als Farblithografien gedruckten Rhein-Alben hervor. In ihnen vereinigen sich Arabeske, Geschichte und Landschaft zu einer kunstvollen Einheit, die schließlich zu einem Synonym der Düsseldorfer Spätromantik wurde. 296 pp. Deutsch.
