From the dust jacket, reading in part, "From his first voyage as an ordinary seaman on the S.S. 'Antinous,' through many years and aboard many ships, Captain Wood tasted life in all parts of the world, using the ships he sailed as his 'magic carpets.' He lived through the Great Depression of the thirties, spending a part of the time 'on the beach'; he sailed ships into danger areas during the Spanish Civil War. His ship was torpedoed during World War II, and some later trips involved him with smugglers and incidents which came close to causing him much trouble."
