The author, a 19th-century scientist, made significant contributions to our understanding of the functions of the ventricular nerves of the mammalian heart and the chemistry of blood coagulation. He introduced new methods to study the heart's ventricular nerves, revealing they do not act as conductors of inhibitory or acceleratory impulses derived from exciting the vagus or accelerator nerves. Instead, Wooldridge demonstrated that these nerves primarily serve an aeruert role. Regarding blood coagulation, the author conducted extensive research that led him to challenge the prevailing view that the process is solely dependent on the presence of a ferment. His experiments provided evidence that coagulation can occur in the absence of a ferment, introducing the concept of interaction between fibrinogens as the causative factor in fibrin formation. Wooldridge's work extended beyond these areas, examining the action of pathogenic organisms and intravascular clotting. He discovered that injecting tissue-brinogen solutions into the bloodstream can induce intravascular clotting, shedding light on the pathological process of thrombosis. Additionally, he contributed to the understanding of auto-infection in cardiac disease. Wooldridge war der erste dem die fundamentale Beobachtung, daß das Blutgerinnsel auf das Fehlen eines Enzyms zurückzuführen ist, gelang. Er ebnete damit den Wissenschaftlern den Weg zur Erkenntis zum Verstehen der Thrombose, vor allem für die Pathologie war dies von großer Bedeutung. Er entdeckte, daß das Gerinnsel immer von der Pfortader ausging und sich die Venen des Körpers ausbreitet. Daneben vertrat er die Ansicht, daß Immunität bei sept. Erkrankungen durch eine Veränderung des Blutes erworben wird. Er kultivierte Milzbranderreger in Fibrinogenlösungen, die er Tieren injizierte um diese gegen Milzbrand zu immunisieren. Es gelang ihm, Nagetiere vor d. Krankheit zu schützen. Seine Arbeiten wurden in England mehrfach von verschiedensten Seiten kritisiert, mißverstanden oder ignoriert, es gelang ihm nicht in den führenden medizinischen Jahrbüchern zu veröffentlichen, seine wertvollen Erkenntnisse mußte er daher in dt.
