Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. Albert Wilfred Barbelle (illustratore). 1st Edition. Original large-format sheet music for one of the defining popular standards of the late Jazz Age, issued with an elegant Albert Wilfred Barbelle cover illustration depicting a stylish flapper in a flowing white dress against a striped Art Deco background. The cover also includes a photographic inset of vaudeville duo Van & Schenck, credited with popularizing the song. Interior music pages feature ukulele and banjulele chord arrangements, reflecting the enormous popularity of fretted instruments during the late 1920s dance-band era. Condition is Very Good. Light overall age toning, mild edge wear, and scattered creasing from handling. Small chip/loss along the lower left edge of the front cover, plus a few short marginal tears and corner creases not affecting music or text. Interior remains clean and complete with strong paper integrity and no detached leaves. Cover colors remain notably vivid, especially the teal, orange-red, and cream palette characteristic of Barbelle's commercial illustration work. Presumed first edition / first commercial printing, 1927. Copyright date appears on interior music page and advertising pages. Original Ager, Yellen & Bornstein imprint at 745 Seventh Avenue, New York City. Rear advertising pages featuring Forgive Me and Love Me All the Time are consistent with contemporaneous 1926-1927 catalog promotion and support an early issue state. Albert Wilfred Barbelle (1887-1957) was among the premier illustrators of Tin Pan Alley sheet music during the 1910s-1930s. His glamorous, fashion-forward depictions of flappers and stage personalities became synonymous with Jazz Age visual culture and remain highly collectible among music ephemera and illustration collectors today. Lyricist Jack Yellen (1892-1991) and composer Milton Ager (1893-1979) were one of Tin Pan Alley's most successful songwriting teams, responsible for enduring standards including Happy Days Are Here Again and Ain't She Sweet?, the latter becoming a staple of vaudeville, dance orchestras, and later early rock-and-roll revival recordings. Ager cofounded the publishing company, Ager, Yellen & Bornstein in 1922. Ager, Yellen & Bornstein, Inc. was an important independent Tin Pan Alley publishing house during the 1920s, specializing in commercially successful popular songs and aggressively marketed illustrated sheet music. Their publications frequently employed leading commercial artists such as Barbelle to distinguish titles visually in crowded music-store displays.
