Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No date (mid 19th century). Half bound in dark leather with gilt titles and decoration to spine, and marbled boards. 225 x 279 x 56mm. A strange and somewhat inexplicable volume, containing various items, apparently incomplete, bound together as one. The bulk of the volume is the 'People's Galle…ry of Engravings', with numerous b/w engravings plus corresponding text pages. These appear to be taken from Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 of the works edited by the Rev. G. N. Wright, though there is no full title-page or contents table. Some pages are from the 'Gallery of Scripture Engravings', though again there is no contents table and the work is undoubtedly incomplete. An incongruous scientific journal from 1846 forms the concluding part of the volume, including index and fold-out diagrams. Leather edges and marbled boards very lightly worn, but cover generally well-preserved; internal contents slightly discoloured and with a little foxing (very minor for the most part, but heavier on a couple of plates); binding secure throughout. NB: An extra shipping charge may be requested for heavier or more valuable items. All our 'Seller Images' show the actual item you will receive.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Finely bound in full calf, with intricately gilt decorative borders and embellishments to the spine, fountain gilded centrally to front boards, gilt spine labels and all edges gilt. Externally lovely, with just the odd instance of very light rubbing to the joints, spine labels and raised bands,…with some discolouration as a result of water marks to the boards. The extremities are lightly bumped resulting in minor rubbing. Ownership bookplate of James Younger Mount Melville to the front pastedown of each volume. The bindings remain firm, with some reinforcement tape along each hinge. The leaves are bright and generally clean, although some plates are spotted and occasionally lightly foxed. Illustrated with engraved plates throughout. Volume II lacking plate 31 of Sorrento, else all plates present, majority complete with tissue-guard. Two splendidly bound volumes of Victorian engravings.
