Bound in half calf with moire cloth to the boards. Very scarce work. In t…wo volumes. Dated using Jisc from copies of the work held at the British Library. This artistic endeavour presents historical landscape illustrations of different scenes described in Sir Walter Scott's Waverley Novels, such as The Pass of Bally-Brough, The Death of Porteus, Inverlochy Castle, and many others. Illustrated with nineteen plates and a frontispiece to Volume I and forty-three plates to Volume II. This works should contain ninety plates, some of which contain two illustrations. Lacking twenty-eight plates across the set.With an extra plate entitled 'The Rescue of Ivanhoe' to page 7 of Volume II, not mentioned in the list of illustrations.Illustrations are taken from drawings by J. M. W Turner, as well as a number of other contributors, with comic illustrations by notes Victorian illustrator, George Cruikshank. With descriptions by the Rev. G. N. Wright, to accompany each illustration. Bound in half calf with moire cloth to the boards. Externally, very smart, with light marks to boards and a little fading. Bookplate to front paste down.
