Erste Ausgabe. - Wertvolle hämatologische Arbeit des großen württembergischen Klinikers, der in dieser Arbeit die Humoralpathologie kritisiert. "Nicht die Humoralpathologie, sondern eine Humoralätiologie sei anzustreben ('die humoralpathologischen Theorien haben traurige Erfahrungen gemacht')…. Demnach sind die 'chemische Analyse des Blutes und der Excreta, die anatomische Untersuchung des Blutes und das Experiment', d. h. die künstliche Hervorbringung von Blutalterationen als allein adäquate Methoden einer zukünftigen pathologischen Physiologie des Blutes anzusehen. Die bisherige Humoralpathologie ist 'noch ferne vom wissenschaftlichen Zusammenhang'. In diesem Sinne wird auch die als Gärungsvorgang innerhalb des Blutes von Justus von Liebig verstandene 'Contagientheorie' abgelehnt. Es fällt auf, daß sowohl Wunderlich als auch Virchow, bei aller wissenschaftlichen Kritik und Klarheit des Blickes für die zukünftige Entwicklung einer Medizin, dennoch für die klinische Praxis ganz unvoreingenommen auf die Krasenlehre zurückgreifen. Es bleibt also auch weiterhin die Krasenlehre für Klinik und Pathologie ein unentbehrlicher empirischer Faktor; das entwickeltere Verständnis jedoch für die der Dyskrasie zugrunde liegenden pathologischen Zusammenhänge begnügt sich - auch und vor allem in der Blutlehre - nicht mehr mit ihrer einfachen Symptomatologie, wie sie von den Ärzten jener Zeit, auch von Johann Lucas Schönlein, einem der damals angesehensten Kliniker, noch selbstverständlich in Anspruch genommen wird" (Boroviczény/Schipperges/Seidler, Einf. in die Gesch. der Hämatologie, S. 64 f.). - Einband berieb. und bestoßen, stockfleckig.
