The separation of CO2 from the hydrocarbons in the natural gas is complicated due to the existence of an azeotrope be…tween ethane (C2) and CO2 at the cryogenic temperatures required for distillation. The main disadvantage of the conventional process lies in its high capital investment and external energy input required to fulfill the desired purification. In addition, current process is different from conventional extractive distillation columns. Because in conventional extractive columns a third component is added to the system and solvent losses in the product streams requires a make-up stream. However, in the present book, the solvent is a mixture of C3 and heavier components in which the solvent stream is quite similar to the light key (ethane) and these distinct features of the process leads to some convergence problems. In order to address these issues, applications of reactive absorption, dividing-wall column and feed-splitting techniques are investigated for this azeotropic mixture and a comparison is made for the new processes. 148 pp. Englisch.

Distillation is one of the oldest and most i…mportant separation processes used in the chemical and petrochemical industries. It is a process wherein the energy requirement is a critical target. The base of this process is a difference in volatility of the components, which should be separated. Among several distillation techniques, reactive distillation (RD) has become an interesting alternative for some conventional processes, especially the equilibrium-limited reactions. The RD combines reaction and distillation in a single column, where reactants are converted to products with simultaneous separation of the products and recycle of unused reactants. This simultaneous reaction and separation allows crossing of azeotropic concentrations and distillation boundaries,hence facilitating product purification.In this book, the removal of some important azeotropes i.e. ethanol/water is conceptually investigated and relevant sensitivity analysis is also conducted. 148 pp. Englisch.

Among the catalysts, Gamma-alumina and HZSM-5 are extensively studied and they have attracted a great deal of attention as potential catalysts because of their high activity and proper stability. In this book, it is attempted to find suitable rate of reactions over HZSM-5 and Gamma-alumina at industrial conditions. In addition, a comparison between the performances of the catalysts is performed. It is found that HZSM-5 has superior performances compared to the Gamma-alumina in terms of conversion. Modeling results are also indicated that the proposed rate of reaction predicts the behavior of the process, properly. Therefore, the vapor phase DME synthesis is simulated by Hysys process simulation software and relevant cost analysis is also conducted and some new processes are investigated to reduce capital and operating costs. Moreover, the HZSM-5 material is modified by aluminophosphate catalyst to improve its activity and retarding hydrocarbon formation. 132 pp. Englisch.
