The December 1982 issue (No. 12) of the English-language literary monthly Chinese Literature, first published in 1951 and edited at this time by Yang Xianyi (1915-2009), one of the foremost twentieth-century translators of Chinese literature into English. The centerpiece of the issue is the new short story "The Log Cabin Overgrown with Creepers" by the young Hunan writer Gu Hua, accompanied by his essay "How I Became a Writer."
