Not listed in any of the main catalogues, here is what a researcher at the British Library had to say about it: " Judging from the images you supplied, it appears to be a Volume Six (of a set presumably), and the volume itself is entitled A True Estimate of Human Life… and Other Miscellaneous Pieces by Dr Edward Young, published by A[ndrew] Millar. Having searched various online catalogues, including ESTC, WorldCat and JISC LIbrary Hub, at first I would like to believe it is part of The works of the author of the Night-thoughts. In this set, up until Volume Five (1767), A Millar is still among the names of the various publishers on the title page. But by the time Volume Six was published in 1778, there only remain Thomas Cadwell and John Nichols, because Millar had died in 1768 and Cadwell was his right hand man; however this Volume Six doesn't include A True Estimate of Human Life, for it has already appeared in Volume Five. Yet at the same time, there was also The works of Dr. Edward Young (New edition), whose imprint is said to be false, and among the names of the publishers, there is a "A. Mallard" (?!). In its Volume Six (1778-1779), the contents it includes are much closer to the volume you own."(end of quotation) What we can be reasonably sure of is that it is part of a mid-late 18th century set of the works of Dr Edward Young. The binding is firm. The spine has been reinforced at some point with adhesive tape. Tear to top corner of first free end paper affecting previous owner's signature. Previous owners appear to include a J.Lee of Wem, Martha Lee, P.Davies, and possibly a Reverend D R Davies RD - two copies of whose business card are in the book (please see images). Please see images as they form an important part of the description. Reasonable offers in the region of the asking price will be considered. Als Sohn eines Geistlichen geboren, widmete sich Young dem Studium der Rechte in Oxford. Seine ersten Gedichte The last day 1713 und The force of religion blieben ohne Wirkung. 1719 ging er nach London, wo er in den geistlichen Stand trat und durch ein Lobgedicht auf König Georg II. 1728 eine Stelle als Hofkaplan erwarb. Zwei Jahre später legte er diese Stelle jedoch nieder und wurde Pfarrer in Wetwyn in Herfordshire. Das Geld, das ihm seine ersten, 1726 erschienenen, Satiren eingebracht hatten, verlor Young bei dem sogenannten Südseeschwindel.
