First American edition of this wonderfully illustrated Victorian work on art instruction. Of particular interest is the excellent section on landscape painting by the noted Canadian landscape artist, Jessie Raycroft who has included two colour chromolithographs, one of which is of Vancouver, British Columbia with mountains in the backdrop, from the view of the residence of the governor of Vancouver Island. The section of flower painting on moleskin velvet by Wheeler is exceptional, and the chapters in the work devoted to Queen Anne and Skeleton embroidery, as well as other needlework are well illustrated.
