Trattasi del primo vol. di ciascuna delle due parti, i cui volumi, secondo quanto si dice nell'avviso ''Agli Amatori delle Belle Arti'', verranno pubblicati alternatamente (la prima parte conterrà il dizionario degli artisti, la seconda sarà dedicata alla grafica). L'opera, curiosamente non registrata dai vari repertori bodoniani (ma solo ricordata da Brooks in nota al n. 1180), secondo Schlosser-Magnino (p. 485 e 509), invece, era già stata impressa dal Bodoni nel 1794 in 8 volumi e la seconda edizione apparirà in 28 vol. dal 1817 al 1824. Cicognara (n. 65) ci informa che nel 1820 i volumi già pubblicati erano 6.
