"In this book the scientific principles of the production of light-sensitive materials are examined in the light of Soviet and foreign progress in the theory of photographic emulsion manufacture and of coating a thin emulsion and auxiliary layers onto flexible supports. The book is concerned with the fundamentals of only the most important and decisive stages in the production of sensitive materials : the actual formation of photographic emulsions, and their application onto flexible supports. These are the stages during which the ultimate photographic properties are realised. The final potential light sensitivity has increased considerably in recent years owing to the growing importance of varions minor 'addititives' and to advnaces in coating thinner concentrated emulsion layers. The trend toward thinner emulsion layers for motion-picture film and toward greater hardening and strength has made the role of physico-chemical processes in the production of sensitive materials considerably more imporant."
