Soft cover. Condizione: Near Fine. No Jacket. Dated 5/1/97, inscribed & signed (well, it's a scribble -- they no longer teach penmanship in the schools) by author Th. Metzger. 1-3/4-inch soft diagonal crease to bottom corner of front wrap. In a special building at the electrically illuminated Chicago World's Fair of 1893, Nikola Tesla was the hero of the age, "seen receiving through his hands currents of more than 200,000 volts, . . . manifesting themselves in dazzling streams of light. . . In Sing Sing, Dannemora, Auburn, prisoners waited in cages to be strapped into a chair, killed, and quickly forgotten. But Tesla stood before awed crowds, a tall gaunt man who played with the basic constituents of nature, like a shaman or priest. Celebrated as the greatest electrical genius of his century, he was transformed by the same "godlike power" which, in secret basement chambers, cooked prisoners to death, nameless sacrificial animals." 191 pp. including Notes and Bibliography. Reduced from $33. Inscribed by Author(s).

Soft cover. Condizione: Near Fine. No Jacket. THE TAQWACORES, A NOVEL, Michael Muhammad Knight, softcover, 2004. ITEM CONDITION: near fine. The text block is in fine condition with no tears, dog-ears, or marks. There is no bookplate or signature of a prior owner. Not a remainder or public library item. The illustrated wraps are in near fine condition (bookstore label affixed to back cover). 7 x 4 ½, 254 pages, 8 ounces XX [From the back cover] Jehangir Tabari came from California and often spoke of the Muslim punk scene out there — 'taqwacore' as he called it. Taqwacore bands ran the gamut in attitude and ideology. There Were groups like the Bin Qarmats and the Zaqqums whose lyrics and behavior lurked somewhere between social protest and juvenile disesteem, but also bands such as Bilal's Boulder that wouldn't even allow girls into their shows. Some bands had high political content and others veered more toward the aloof Sufi end of the spectrum. Jehangir seemed equally proud of them all, as though nothing in the world could pin him down to an intellectual commitment. 'You should see it, Yakee,' he told me once, sitting on the back of his car in a parking lot while we waited for Fasiq to buy rolling papers. 'I was at this fuckin' Mutaween's show in Sacramento and I'm in the pit, getting tossed around n' whatever, and then the music just stops — bam, just like that, it stops and we stop slamming into each other, everything just freezes and all you hear is the singer up there reciting Ar-rahman as beautiful as i'd ever heard, and he just keeps going with it — the whole sum, you know, all the fabi—ayyi ala irabbikuma Tukazibams and shit, and all these hard-ass punks just stand there listening and by the time he's done, half of us are in fuckin' tears, bro." Mash'Allah, I replied gravely. 'Yeah, Yakee. It's an amazing scene of people out there.' XX Sooner or later, punk and Islam were fated to meet and produce strange offspring. This excellent novel represents the first blast of the trumpet — loud and utterly unique (Hakim Bey). XX Offers ideas and questions in a subtle, non-threatening and conversational way. Infinitely readable. XX [Wikipedia] Michael Muhammad Knight (born 1977) is an American author, scholar, and convert to Islam. His writings are popular among American Muslim youth. The Guardian has described him as the Hunter S. Thompson of Islamic literature, and his non-fiction work exemplifies the principles of gonzo journalism. Within the American Muslim community, he has earned a reputation as an ostentatious cultural provocateur. He obtained a Master of Theological Studies degree from Harvard University in 2011 and received his Ph.D. in Islamic studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2016. Knight is currently an associate professor of religion and cultural studies in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Central Florida.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Second revised. pp. 285, Octavo [23 cm], pink illustrated wraps. ".a history of the body in the transition to capitalism. Moving from the peasant revolts of the late Middle Ages to the witch-hunts and the rise of mechanical philosophy, Federici investigates the capitalist rationalization of social reproduction. She shows how the battle against the rebel body and the conflict between body and mind are essential conditions for the development of labor power and self-ownership, two central principles of modern social organization." - from the back cover.

Softcover. Condizione: Good. Nonfiction. BEYOND BOOKCHIN is the most comprehensive discussion to date of Murray Bookchin s social ecology. But David Watson goes far beyond social ecology to explore new paths of thinking about radical politics. His visionary ecology challenges the mystique of progress and proposes a more holistic notion of reason both primal and modern, skeptical and mythopoetic.

Condizione: Near Fine. First Edition. First edition. Signed by Hakim Bey on the half-title page. viii, 141, [11] pp with 11 advertising pages at rear. Bound in publisher's color wraps. Near Fine with very light soiling to covers and textblock corners; spine uncreased. Hakim Bey was the pen name of the American anarchist writer Peter Lamborn Wilson, best known for his concept of Temporary Autonomous Zones: short-lived spaces that exist outside formal structures of control. His theories inspired rave culture and influenced the Occupy and Black Lives Matter movements, most notably in Seattle's Capital Hill Autonomous Zone or CHAZ district, created in 2020 by BLM protestors who seized control of a police station and its surrounding area and established a community that existed outside the law. An uncommon signed copy from the collection of the poet Nathaniel Tarn, a friend of the author. One of the most influential works of 20th century anarchist theory. Signed.
