First edition. French Winawer 7.Qg4 0-0 is written in German and contains so much verbal explanation that a real issue arises as to whether it is suitable for English-speaking readers and others without knowledge of German. Most French aficionados and those playing against the main-line Winawer (i.e., players who elect to play 3.Nc3, 4.e5 etc.) will get such great benefit from this book that they definitely should latch onto a copy right now. Others might want to wait for the English translation that is in the works, bearing in mind that there might be some time before it comes out. Condition: Near fine.

Das Leningrader System stellt eine der schärfsten und interessantesten Erwiderungen auf den Doppelschritt des weißen d-Bauern dar. Da die typische schwarze Formation auch gegen Flankenspiele wie 1. c4 oder 1. Sf3 gut spielbar ist, handelt es sich für den Schwarzspieler um eine echte Universalwaffe. Auch gibt es in kaum einem anderen Eröffnungssystem noch soviel Raum für neue Ideen und kreative Erfahrung. Bei vorliegendem Werk handelt es sich in erster Linie um ein Repertoirebuch gegen 1. d4, dem Schwarzen wird also gegen jede gebräuchliche weiße Fortsetzung nach 1. d4 f5 ein starkes Gegenmittel in die Hand gegeben, das ihm gutes Spiel und viele aktive Möglichkeiten verspricht. Zusätzlich werden noch Tipps und Anregungen gegen Flankenspiele mit 1. Sf3 und 1. c4 gegeben. Doch auch Weiß-Spieler auf der Suche nach Waffen gegen den Leningrader mit 7. De8 kommen nicht zu kurz, ihnen ist ein eigener Abschnitt gewidmet. Folgt der Schwarze hier herkömmlichen Empfehlungen, kann er schnell in einer ziemlich schlechten Stellung landen.

Dann ist nämlich ein zweischneidiges Spiel angesagt, ganz im Sinne des Schwarzspielers. Enttäuschung macht sich dann aber breit, wenn der Weiße stattdessen zu dem positionellen System 6. g3 greift. Aus dieser Überlegung resultiert der gewählte Titel - 'Drachentöter'. Nach 6. g3 stirbt zunächst die Hoffnung des Schwarzen auf einen 'echten'Drachen' Drachen. Zunächst betrachtet der Autor die entstehenden Bauern- und Figurenstrukturen. Danach wird die Entwicklung der Abspiele anhand von 22 Musterpartien ausführlich dargestellt. Es folgen über 60 Fragmente aus unterschiedlichen Mittelspielphasen. Geeignet ist das Buch für ambitionierte Spieler und Spieler, die mehr Wert auf das Entwickeln von Spielverständnis legen als auf das Auswendiglernen von 160 pp. Deutsch.
