Condizione: new. ALL UK PARCELS SENT TRACKED! ALL OVERSEAS PARCELS SENT AIRMAIL, TRACKED! (S/hand, Hardcover, 1972). (1840) 1972 new edition. 8vo (123 x 207mm). Ppx,xii,460. B/w vignette illustrations, new and critical introduction by James Wentworth Day. Red cloth, spine titled in gilt. Small abrasion to end-paper but good-plus… in used dust-wrapper. The angling section was originally published in the eighth edition of the Encylopaedia Britannica but, in the author's own words, "We think the butt-end is not much the worse for wear, - we have strengthened the mid-pieces, repaired the top, and given the whole a coat of varnish, hoping that in the hands of others, now more fit for the practice of the gentle art than we ourselves, it may prove a steady friend and true, whether in still or troubled waters." "The treatise on angling is much above the ordinary as a manual." (Westwood and Satchell). Wilson's un-named co-author, and author of "The Oakleigh shooting code." was A.K. Killmister. Killmister has contributed the shooting section of the book, which also originally appeared as the article, Shooting, in the Encyclopaedia Britannica. He states that since the article was published ".the "Oakleigh Shooting Code" has been withdrawn as a separate publication; but so much of it as was deemed worth preserving has been embodied in the treatise from the Encyclopaedia, which is now re-published, with large additions, in the following pages." Contents include: Part 1. Angling - Introductory observations on the principles of the angler and his art; On the general structure and physiology of fishes; Of the angler's fishes in particular - their aspect, habits, and modes of capture; List of works on angling. Part 2. Shooting - A retrospective view of the weapons of the chase; and of some of the sports and pastimes that preceded the use of the gun; The jungle; The park and the forest; The moor - the glen - the pine wood - and the granite cliff; The farm - the marsh - and the wood; The beach - the river - and the flood; Juvenile sports; The dog; The fowling-piece; Taking aim. .

Cloth, 4to, 29 cm, vii, xv, 54 pp,70 plates. From the blurb - " Subtitled 'An Historical Survey of Dancing in Europe', the work here reprinted is a lavishly illustrated volume using con temporary prints and illustrations to supplement a full and detailed text. The work, essentially in two parts, examines the history of the dance… within its "Social" and "Spectacular" contexts. "Social" comprises a concise history from the earliest Greek dances through to the development of Jazz. This is the dance in its purest and most absolute form in which it rested for its expression solely upon its own instinctive and peculiar methods unaided by any art other than that of music from which in the nature of things it can never be divorced. The "Spectacular" is a natural development of the former, being a consideration of the dance used in combination and partnership with other arts as one of the elements of a composite form of entertainment known variously as mummings, disguisings, revels, masquerades or masques, an art form which finds its ultimate expression in the ballet. The very nature of the subject matter prevents placing before the reader a continuous narrative or orderly series of documents but here contained within this reprint are an authoritative detailed text and excellent pictorial history which determine the facts and broader tendencies which have shaped the course of the Dance. " Near Very Good. In slightly faded and rubbed used dustwrapper.

Cloth, 8vo, various paginations (c706 pp). Coxe published in 1852 what the blurb describes as "a two-volume catalogue of manuscripts in the Oxford Colleges, entitled Catalogus Codicum Mss. Qui In Collegiis Aulisque Oxoniensibus Hodie Adservantur Est. This catalogue lists the manuscript holdings of seventeen of the colleges which… made up the University of Oxford in the mid 19th century and although there have, of course, been some changes in their holdings, the catalogue remains the only authoritative listing for the majority of the colleges. The reprint is undertaken from the annotated copy in the Bodleian Library by kind permission of the Keeper of Printed Books. The annotations in a large measure indicate new acquisitions and changes in ownership." Edges slightly spotted, otherwise Very Good in slightly yellowed dustwrapper.
