Verso of front wrapper has the inscription in a very attractive hand: "With Constance Tuck's Compliments January 1936." She and her husband were very generous benefactors to many worthy causes. Text of a lecture given by Sir Herbert Samuel, former British High Commissioner of Palestine, on the British role in Palestine, focusing on the history of the British conquest during World War I. Herbert stresses the (supposed) continuing commitment of the British government to the Zionist cause, in keeping with the Balfour Declaration, of establishing a Jewish homeland in Palestine (Read the Wikipedia entries for The White Paper and for the ship Struma to learn of Britain's complicity and guilt in the death of countless Jews). Introduction by Sir Ronald Storrs and a vote of thanks to Storrs proposed by Chief Rabbi J. H. Hertz and Elkan N. Adler. Includes a photograph of the event. Chief Rabbi Herz was a consummate diplomat, but for many Jews Storrs reputation is in the toilet and rightly so. And as for Herbert Samuel, he was a weak-willed man, overly anxious to demonstrate to his bosses in London, and to the Arabs, that, though Jewish, he was "even handed." God save us from such Jews as Herbert Samuel.
