Some of these tales are simple, artless almost to the point of naivety, yet all are strikingly descriptive of the tenor and way of life in 'that winsome border country where North Suffolk nudges South Norfolk, separated by the Waveney's straggle' before television, the universal motor car and the welfare state combined to change the countryman's life-style and rob him of much of his ingenuity.
