Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. [.] 24 pp. Deutsch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2011 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 1,0, University of Würzburg (Neuphilologisches Instut), course: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - linguistisch gesehen, l…anguage: English, abstract: Imagine a foursome sitting on a dinner table which is laid out with delicious afternoon tea items. They are enjoying the splendid weather and carrying on a nice conversation with each other. By all means, this is absolutely not a fitting description of what is happening during the MAD TEA-PARTY, a chapter of 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'. Charles Lutwidge Dodgson is the author of both this book and 'Through the Looking-Glass - and what Alice found there', and is better known under the nom de plume Lewis Carroll. From now on, I am going to refer to him by this pseudonym. There are several points that make this particular tea-party so special. First and foremost, it has to be specified that the group of four gathered around the table are not all human beings. In fact, there is just Alice who fits into this category. The other three are Wonderland creatures: the Mad Hatter, the March Hare and the Dormouse. Having come to this realization, it is easier to understand why the latter are often behaving peculiarly by human standards. The fact that Lewis Carroll has come up with this fanciful, witty and ingenious chapter shows his great skills in making language an instrument that helps him not only to entertain and amuse, but also to cast doubt on what seems to be irrefutable and to make the reader ponder. Since, from the first time I read Carroll's successful novel, it was this particular chapter I liked most, I am very interested in learning more about it. First of all, I want to find out how the time in which Alice in Wonderland was written has influenced the story and its main character, Alice. As this little girl is not the only interesting character in the book, I am going to devote myself to the March Hare and the Mad Hatter afterwards. Not only do I want to take a closer look at their personalities, but I will also scrutinize their language when they are speaking to Alice. For this purpose, I want to refer to two of Paul Watzlawick's axioms. Last but not least, I am going to find out what is understood by the linguistic phenomenon of implicature and how this is connected with the MAD TEA-PARTY. 16 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2011 in the subject Pedagogy - Miscellaneous Topics, grade: 1,0, Turku University of Applied Sciences, course: skill aquistion, language: English, abstract: Acting is the gate to a world, in which everyt…hing can become true, even if it is absolutely fanciful. I experience this for 10 years and I like to look back on this time. Therefore is the topic of this essay: How to become a virtuosic actor That contains on the one hand the question of how to become an expert in the area of acting in general and the other hand how to become an adaptive expert. I want to answer both.First of all will be a summary of the requirements given, which are linked with the satisfaction of the public expectation toward a capable actor in general, and the abilities, which are needed to fulfill the requirements. This way of explanation was chosen, because the point of views among the actors them self relative to what a capable actor is differs with a large degree under each other. Afterwards will be the differences between novices and experts stated. This is to explain, why experts-actors can fulfill the requirements and novices mostly not. In the following will be the differences between experts them self and the reasons for this fact explained, to illustrate why not every expert-actor is a virtuosic one. Building on this will be several conditions and techniques introduced, which are necessary or advisable for becoming an expert-actor in general, like motivation, and an adaptive expert-actor, like learning in several contexts. This essay will be concluded by summarizing the significant information, which will answer the given questions. The mostly facts stated will be illustrated with examples from the field of acting. It should be mentioned that all examples are lend from my own experience. Since the space is limited, this essay does not cover all important aspects of theme, but gives an overview of the issues that were crucial to me toward the field of acting in general. 24 pp. Englisch.

But for this an extensive education is necessarily. This fact underlines the importance of a well-functioning education system. A great amount of approaches all over the world toward this topic exits and this essays aim is to present the Saxon one.To achieve this, the essay will start with structure of the education system of Saxony. This contains, among other information, the learning-aims, achievable graduations and selectable profiles of elementary schools, secondary schools, academic high schools, and schools for gifted pupils as well as schools for pupils with special needs. In this context the function of the orientation classes will be also explained. Subsequently the administrative structure of the Saxon education systems will be presented. This includes important tasks of the Minister of educational and cultural affairs as well as his ministry, the 5 subordinate education authorities and the structure of 2 last mentioned. The tasks and qualification of headmasters will be particularly emphasised in order to underline their importance for the Saxon education system. Based on this the significant findings of the 'Programme for International Student Assessment' 2006 (PISA) as well as of the 'Bildungsmonitor' 2010 will be presented. In conclusion all important facts will be summarized. If current challenges and priorities are traceable in an area will these constitute in the end of a chapter. 16 pp. Englisch.

The two terms 'Rastafarianism' and 'Pan-Africanism' are widely unknown among Central Europeans and especially among native German speakers, and I had been no exception before I dealt extensively with this topic. Therefore, although this is a literary term paper, I will present historical, religious and sociological facts along with linguistic annotations as a basic background to my literary studies in order to inform the reader and give him a more or less detailed survey ON Rastafarian culture and society. I regard it as necessary to give short definitions of Rastafarianism and Pan-Africanism and their relations to one another in the beginning, for the simple reason that many readers will hardly ever have come across these two terms before, but I will keep them short, because everything will be discussed in detail further on, at the examples of literary texts. These literary texts will comprise mainly songs, because the main possibility of expression for Rastafarian spokesmen is their music - Reggae. 24 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Essay from the year 2012 in the subject Didactics - Common Didactics, Educational Objectives, Methods, , language: English, abstract: The practice of giving feedback within the writing process has been the subject of many studies s…ince the mid-1980s. The call for teachers to develop better feedback practices became apparent after studies showed that students have been generally less than satisfied with how teacher-student written feedback has been given. This chapter aims to identify how teachers may be able to offer feedback in a way that engages students, and presents them with clear messages that they will understand and appreciate. In order for this to be tangible in this context, the consideration and integration of alternative modes of learning through Information Communication Technologies (ICT) need to be realised. In particular, the use of Web 2.0 technology to assist in the writing process by giving students video feedback, instead of written feedback, on their draft papers. The primary epistemology of the proposed approach is consistent with students looking for improved methods of feedback they receive from teachers. This paper describes ongoing ICT-pedagogical practices for improving feedback given by teachers to students at high school level. The students aged fourteen-sixteen are members of a small Turkish high school population of around three hundred pupils. Based on my own classroom research, this paper focuses on feedback given on academic essays completed within the writing process, in order to discover how students respond to a different type of feedback than that to which they have been accustomed. I will also suggest that we, as ELT practitioners, find ways to move for a change to our feedback practices, and provide students with an alternative methodology that could lead to better student-engagement and focused writing practices within this context. 20 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2011 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Linguistics, grade: 1,3, University of Heidelberg (Anglistisches Seminar), course: PS II 'Cultural Dimensions of Language Variation and Commu…nication', language: English, abstract: In recent studies on cultural aspects of languages, subcultures have been given more and moreimportance. On the metaphorical potential of such groups, Kövecses noted thatSubcultures develop their own metaphors, and these metaphors may define the group. There is ofcourse no subculture that defines itself through an entirely new set of metaphors, but some of themetaphors members use may be new relative to the mainstream (Kövecses 2009: 286f).And this might be especially true for the subculture of Hip Hop with its most importantmanifestation being rap music. Despite the fact that the genre is in existence since the Seventies, linguistic studies in this field are still rare, and investigations into the metaphorical inventory of rapmusic literally not existent. A first and important step into that direction has been undertaken byScott Crossley, whose study shows the linguistic potential of rap music as well as its variety ofmetaphors:As a product of a historically oral culture that embodies familiar metaphorical traits [.], AfricanAmerican rap music is especially rich in metaphoric language. Its roots, along with other AfricanAmerican linguistic traditions (including signifying, the dozens, and narrativizing), give rap music itsexceptional linguistic variety (Crossley 2005: 503).The present term paper will continue Crossley's research on metaphorical conceptions in rap musicby illustrating further conceptual metaphors, but it also likes to develop it into a new direction byincluding German rap music as well. The relationship between American and German rap music isespecially interesting because it is coined by a linguistic impact that is by far not as strong on amore general level. Certain aspects of this impact have already been laid down in earlier papers1,and it will be most rewarding to explore its cognitive dimensions as well.In the analysis three metaphorical concepts will be examined. They are illustrated with thehelp of similar conceptions from everyday language and from an exemplary rap music corpus that ismore clearly defined in the next chapter. The methodical points of the analysis are laid down in thischapter as well. And since the metaphorical conceptions in rap music 'are generally specific to thesubculture that either adopts them from the dominant culture or creates them to address their owncultural needs' (Crossley 2005: 501), variations on an intra cultural level will be noted as well. 20 pp. Englisch.

It changed a lot of the structures of the Union to which many citizens have grown used to. For example, the 'pillar-structure' of the EU, which was implemented by the Maastricht Treaty, is gone. It is a big step towards a more (political) integrated and an 'ever closer Union'. Since the 1960s US presidential campaignads on TV have been increasingly successful and cutting-edge.They sometimes were so convincing they even swung adecision. Over the last decades the predominant topics in USfederal politics were the Cold War as well as national securityand the US military. In 1964 the presidential election campaignwas highly influenced by the escalating situation in Vietnam andthe general disquiet caused by the arms race and nuclearweapons. The American psyche was collectively anxious aboutthe latent atomic menace so it suggested itself to address fearin a presidential campaign ad. The Nixon campaign 1972 dealtwith one of the genuine Republican topics: Military. Due to itssuccess it was remade in two subsequent campaigns called'Tank Ride' in 1988 for George Bush and 2004 in 'WeaponsFlorida' for George W. Bush. The latter will be examined in thispaper, too. However, there are different approaches to persuade thevoting public; one of the most favorable techniques is playingon the people's emotions. Thus, it is not surprising that USpresidential campaign ads have a history of exploiting fear intelevision ads. It leads from 1964 until 2004 and aims atpersuading voters by the well-directed use of sounds, imagesand language. 20 pp. Englisch.

Language has power to heal and destroy the entire universe. Thus it is imperative that good use be made of it. We use language in diverse ways (to write, speak, reason, abuse, curse etc). Linguists argue that the primary function of language is to formulate and convey information about the world we live in. In other words, language is a very crucial tool in our daily lives. We live and act because of language. The paper philosophically analyzed the power of language in society, and suggested possible ways that can boost peace and cohesion in a cosmopolitan society, such as Kenya. The study focused on the concept of bunyon among the Kalenjins and by extension other ethnic communities of Kenya. Purposive and random sampling methods were employed to identify the study population of 29 informants. Data was collected through oral interviews. 28 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Essay from the year 2011 in the subject Tourism - Miscellaneous, grade: 71% (first), University of Lincoln, course: Consumer Culture and Tourism, language: English, abstract: From 'buy what we need' to 'buy what is valuable' - the…history of consumption has experienced some radical changes. In former times, humans, especially the working class, just bought products which they needed, due to a lack of resources. Luxurious goods could only be acquired by the nobility. Later on, a consolidation of the economy led to mass consumption through the working class as well. The consumers were not focused anymore on satisfying the basic needs only. They rather acquired products and services as to possess something that enabled them to belong to a group of higher status and that was different from the daily routine. It can be assumed that the consumers wanted and still want to possess objects with a certain value, so they rather have to be luxurious. According to Frank (2001, p. 17), we are in a 'luxury consumption boom' as evidenced by high prices and rapidly growing waiting lists for luxurious goods. So there is a strong likelihood that consumers are more interested in products and services with a high value and quality. Furthermore, 'luxury spending is a trend not just among the rich; it's found among middle and lower-income earners as well' (Arnould et al, 2002, p. 119). Regarding tourism, consumers seem to be more interested in spending money for touristic products and services as well. Leisure and tourist consumption has become 'one of U.S. consumers' favourite forms of entertainment, generating more revenue than movies, spectator sports, theme parks, cruise ships, and recorded music combined' (Arnould et al, 2002, p. 118). However, it seems likely that consumers afford items (especially valuable ones) because they desire to express social status and wealth. According to Baudrillard (cited in Bocock & Thompson, 1992, pp. 149-150), 'we do not purchase items of clothing, food, body decoration, furniture or entertainment to express a pre-given sense of who we are. Rather, we become that which what we buy makes us'. Regarding the today's consumer behaviour in tourism and the ideas of status symbols and Baudrillard's writings, the aim of this essay is to discuss and investigate if people only afford goods because they desire to express their image and identity or if they become what they buy. There will be a closer look at manipulation, hyper-reality and simulacrum as well. 16 pp. Englisch.

In recent years, we witnessed enormous increases and volatilities in commodity and especially food prices. Concerns of starvation are therefore strengthening. These economies tend to have a high percentage of food in their standardized consumption basket, which means they spend more of their income on food in general. Since food is an essential good of living, the recent price developments over the past ten years are threatening the social stability of these economies as well as the well-being of their inhabitants. In contrast to developed economies, the population of these relatively 'poor' economies is facing enormous problems feeding themselves and their children. This paper antends to give an answer to the extend of the pass-through effects of price increases to developing economies and the driving effects of those prices. In the first part of the paper I am going to give a short overview over recent price developments, then discuss the topic of influential factors on these prices, especially the extend which speculation has on aforementioned price in- and decreases. In the second part, I am going to eruate the pass-through effects of world food prices to developing economies as shown in the autumn study of the international monetary fund (hereinafter mentioned as IMF), namely what effect a 5% increase of food prices on international trade markets has on these economies, especially their output gap, and the foreign exchange value of the currency. The question to evaluate will not only be how price developments arecreated but also how they influence the economies and social stability of developing countries. 24 pp. Englisch.

I will first have a look at the current - economic - situation of the island nation (in context with its latest developments), leaving the detailed examination of the accession controversy for the main part. There, I will analyse the potential advantages and disadvantages that would arise for Iceland with the EU-membership. 16 pp. Englisch.

With the aid of legislation, case law and amendments to the contracts it had gradually succeeded to give emphasis to this principle and apply it in the EU.This work will now try to show you this development. In the beginning, there will be a description of legal framework in the EU. This framework essentially bases on Article 157 TFEU and the Directive 2006/54. Afterwards follows the development of case studies by the jurisprudence of the ECJ in more detail. Keep on with the content of Article 157 TFEU with a closer look on the questions: What is pay What is equal pay for equal work or work of equal value When exists discrimination What is the difference between direct and indirect discrimination 'Well come forward, but still long way to go': So the initial assessment of the agreement is to promote equal opportunities between women and men in the private sector. Is it right and more: is it enough Let's see if this question can be answered at the end of this work. 16 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2007 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Linguistics, University of Hamburg, language: English, abstract: In language, various ideas can be expressed in alternating ways which, in th…e end, can all have the same meaning. However, the speaker's choices are influenced and restricted by linguistic factors. The following example of a fictive story shows, how various different words can all have the same meaning 'Yesterday, I went to the park and I saw a boy who killed a pigeon by throwing big chunks of bread at its head. This made me so mad that I had to walk up to the boy and yell at him. Telling him that he shouldn't have done what he did, he told me that he didn't do it intentionally.' In this little story, 'this', 'what he did', and 'it' all refer to the action of the boy killing the duck with a piece of bread. When the speaker of the story chose the pronoun 'it', he must have thought that his audience would easily identify 'it' as the action of killing the duck. Speakers often tend to use pronouns instead of using the antecedent because it simplifies and shortens speech analysis. However, sometimes speech analysis can become very complicated and pronouns confuse the listener, let alone simplify the discourse. For example:(1) 'Peter hit Harry. After this, he didn't like him anymore.'In this case, the listener would have to have contextual information to determine whether Peter did not like Harry anymore or vice versa. Just from reading the sentence, the reader would not know what is really going on. As in this example, or in many other utterances and texts, where chains of pronouns strike the audience, discourse analysis becomes highly complicated. 24 pp. Englisch.

Product…ivity is 'one of the defining features of human language which allows a native speaker to produce a large number of words and sentences according to the rules of a generative grammar' (Bauer 1991:84). In the English language there exists a vast number of words which were produced by compounding. In my term paper I am going to explain in detail what we understand by the term compound. I am going to look at semantic and syntactic characteristics and how compounds can be distinguished from syntagms which look very similar to them. In the further progress of my manuscript I am going to make a pilot study of the frequency of compounds in newspaper articles from different genres. I give answer to the question which genre seems to favour the use of compounds and which not. Of course my study is not going to be sufficient enough to present generally accepted results but after it prospects can be estimated. 20 pp. Englisch.

To discuss and maybe answer this question, I will first give a short summary of the Modularity Hypothesis as found in works of Chomsky and also of Jerry Fodor. After that, I will summarize Chomsky's theory of innateness, in connection with his belief that there exists a 'Universal Grammar', which is responsible for people's ability to acquire language. 20 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2012 in the subject History - Africa, grade: none, , course: African Borderland History, language: English, abstract: This study offers a compelling revision of the meagre Nigerian histo…riography on the Bakassi Peninsula. It argues that Nigeria's claim of ownership of the Peninsula is logically indefensible and historically unsustainable. It contends further that Efik irredentism which found its expression in Nigeria's attempt to forcefully annex the Bakassi Peninsula is based on historical claims that are in reality largely ahistorical. The study is of the opinion that Nigeria's occupation of, and attempts to exercise sovereignty over the Peninsula emanated from the predictable desire of the Nigerian ruling elite to appropriate Bakassi's abundant natural resources and the strategic advantage that the Peninsula holds for Nigeria's oil interests in the Gulf of Guinea. This study further analyses the border-cum-migration problematics that prevail in the Peninsula. It argues that patterns of migrant life rooted in historic and still functioning socio-cultural and economic networks persist in defiance equally of national and international agreements and political claims to ethnic solidarity. The study concludes that peace can only be guaranteed in the Bakassi Peninsula, and indeed in virtually all conflict prone African borderlands, if African governments respect the old 'glass houses rule' (i.e. the 1964 Cairo Declaration by the OAU) and acknowledge that colonial treaties and national borders, irrespective of their arbitrariness and artificiality, constitute the foundation of all modern African state structures. 40 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Essay from the year 2011 in the subject Leadership and Human Resource Management - Miscellaneous, grade: 75 %, Queensland University of Technology, course: Contemporary Issues in HRM, language: English, abstract: Since the beginnin…g of the 1990's knowledge management has gained a significant role in research as well as in practice in today's global organisations. This is due to several changes that took place in the last 20 years, one of the most important ones being the general and global shift from manufacturing to service business (Evans, 2003), increasing global competition and the rise and development of information and communication technology (ICT) (Davenport & Prusak, 1998). Information and knowledge today are often seen as the main determining factors of competitiveness of organisations (Evans, 2003). Modern organisations therefore have to ask themselves how to implement an effective knowledge management. The terms knowledge and knowledge management are difficult to define and differ in meaning according to the context. Therefore, in order to keep it simple, both terms should be seen, in this essay, in the context of an organisation's knowledge management system which is 'a system that enhances organizational learning through facilitation of knowledge (both tacit and explicit) exchange and sharing' (Yahya & Goh, 2002, p. 458).This essay will deal with the link between knowledge management and human resource management (HRM) and in particular with the question how HRM can contribute to share tacit knowledge within an organisation. 16 pp. Englisch.
