Hardcover. Condizione: German/English. As new. 2nd ed., rev. and expanded. Quarto. Hardcover. Blue paper boards in illustrated jacket. 87 pages : illustrations (some color) ; 29 cm. Ron Mueck, the hyper-realist sculptor, learned his craft making models and puppets for television and movies. He was nearly 40 when his work came to the attention of Charles Saatchi. At Saatchi's urging, he began to show his sculptures in gallery and museum contexts in the late 1990s. They met with astonishment and praise, particularly Dead Dad, a silicon and mixed media model of Mueck's father's body, perfectly proportioned but less than four feet long, which made its debut at the highly-publicized Sensation show. The human presence and perfection of detail in Mueck's work, the realism and mysterious, transfigured quality of his figures, which stems in part from his extravagant liberties with scale, excited immediate international attention. Since then, the artist's fame has increased steadily with each new work. This second, expanded edition of the monograph of record updates the only comprehensive publication on Mueck's work. Céline Bastian's catalogue raisonné lists all of his works to date.…

Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Near Fine. First Edition. 4to; 376 pages; Contents clean and secure in original gray cloth binding with decorative stamping in silver in very attractive pictorial dustjacket. Upper right corner bumped. The history of modern design is not only older but much more multifaceted than commonly assumed. This thesis is elegantly borne out through an exploration of the work and influence of the Vienna avant-garde of the Biedermeier period, an era that brought forth shapes and forms which have lost none of their appeal, even today. If the towering objects that appear together on the cover of this book give the effect of a futuristic city, they thereby prove that their design stands the test of time, resoundingly relevant to our current design view thanks to its creative innovation. In fin-de-siAcle Vienna, the designs of Josef Hoffman and Koloman Moser for the Wiener Werkstatte were informed by the intellectual content of that time. Since then, many of their ideas and the ideas of the Vienna avant-garde found their way into mass production; in this way have they trickled down into today's design vocabulary, primarily via the Bauhaus and de Stijl movements. Viennese Silver: An Adventure in Time 1800-1900 compares 180 carefully selected Viennese silver objects from the classicist to the Wiener Werkstatte periods with 20th-century architectural and design objects, exploring the question of Vienna's contribution to the development of modern design.…

Hardcover. Condizione: VG+. Hardcover with blue cloth spine and color reproduction on front and reverse 223 pages : reproductions (chiefly color). Hugo McCloud's art has evolved through a rigorous process of inventive experimentation. Finding beauty in the everyday, his work incorporates unconventional, often overlooked industrial materials, including single-use plastic bags, aluminum plates, and bronze panels treated with acid. McCloud's ingenious approach to materiality is informed by a deep interest in social and political concerns. Over the past fifteen years, McCloud has produced a remarkable oeuvre brought together for the first time in this new survey. This publication coincides with the artist's first solo museum exhibition at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Exhibition: The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield, Connecticut, USA. Introduction / Lauren Kelly -- Acknowledgments / Jeffrey Grove -- From where I stand / Richard Klein -- The artist at work: Hugo McCloud's poetics of labor / Lucy Mensah -- List of works -- Biography -- Bibliography.…

Hardcover. Blue DJ with black and white lettering and illustration; green and white illustrated boards with white lettering; 211 pp.; richly illustrated, chiefly in color. Since the late 1970s, as a pioneer of Southern California underground culture, Raymond Pettibon has blurred the boundaries of "high" and "low," from the deviations of marginal youth to art history, literature, sports, religion, politics and sexuality. Rich in detail, his obsessively worked drawings pull freely from myriad sources spanning the cultural spectrum. The resulting, highly poetic constructions function as acute reflections of contemporary society. Throughout the years, his subjects have included political figures and historical events, with particular intensity since the events of September 11, 2001. Seen here are images of Ronald and Nancy Reagan, J. Edgar Hoover, both Bush presidents, the Kennedys, Hitler, scenes from the Vietnam War and protest movements, wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the prisoner abuse of Abu Ghraib, President Obama and Osama bin Laden. Raymond Pettibon (born 1957) studied economics at UCLA around the same time he joined his brother in the punk band Black Flag. He soon began to contribute artwork to album covers, flyers and t-shirts, for the band and its label, SST Records, and exhibited his work in group shows in galleries in the 1980s. Since the 1990s his work has been the subject of numerous major solo exhibitions. -- WorldCat.
