Andrew Marvell(1621 1678) was anEnglishpoet, satirist and politician who sat in theHouse of Commonsperiodically between 1659 and 1678. He was also a colleague and friend ofJohn Milton. His poems range from the love-song "To His Coy Mistress," to evocations of an aristocraticcountry houseand garden in "Upon Appleton House" and "The Garden." Today he is regarded as one of the bestMetaphysical poets.
