Hardcover. Condizione: Wie neu. 98 pp. Like new, with a slightly rubbed binding. - Summary: The literary legacy of Ernest Hemingway is irredeemably linked to modern art and bullfighting. The American writer found in impressionism and cubism different pictorial techniques that he translated into narrative art. Bullfighting was one of the thematic cornerstones of his work and left an indelible print on his way of understanding life and death. The book connects these two important elements in Hemingways work, showing how he underlined certain aspects of bullfighting through the use of narrative strategies inspired in modern art. In this sense, it may be argued that Hemingway represents the fiesta almost using brushstrokes instead of words. The book also deals with one key element in his portrait of bullfighting, knowledge, and this in a twofold sense: on the one hand, shedding light on how Hemingway started to understand this tradition, and, on the other, revealing its condition of source of prestige and survival. - Table of Contents: PART I The comprehension of bullfighting in Ernest Hemingway's works -- Chapter 1 Discovering the fiesta, discovering a country -- 1.1. Tapa blanda, 21 cm. Condizione: Wie neu. Softcover. Condizione: Sehr gut. XX, 190 pp. Very good copy with a slighlty bumped corner. - Summary: The term agape has become something of a mainstream concept, as it has graced Americas television screens through commercial media. This book investigates agape and presents a timely, novel argument regarding current strains on U.S. education and student learning outcomes. It interrogates the impact of a loveless, meritocratic and exclusively Eurocentric learning environment on student engagement and motivation, reimagining a more effective outcome when unconditional love guides both curriculum and pedagogy. Through an interdisciplinary lens of western and non-western scholarship and storytelling, the author shares her journey along a 30 year practice of a curriculum of agapea hidden and explicit curriculum of a selfless and radical love, ever pursuant of the unfinished quest for social justice in the learning space. A Curriculum of AgapeReimagining Love in the Classroom is a theoretical and practical guide for prioritizing and actualizing unconditional love in the classroom as a relevant and necessary approach to maximizing student learning outcomes. - Contents: Introduction - How I Arrived at Agape -- Part I. Hardcover, 21 cm. Condizione: Wie neu. 240 pp., 1 fig. b/w A perfect copy. - Summary: Chill and swaggering colorbent Founding Fathers have been blowing away Hamilton audiences since 2015. And there is no doubt that Lin-Manuel Miranda created an artistic monumental vessel of empowerment for people of Color whose stories have been left out. Yet, when we dig deeper into the historical evidence that Hamilton is based on, we come across a treasure trove of questions regarding the women in the musical. Was Angelica really a feminist? What is Theodosias connection to the duel? Did Eliza know about her husbands affair with Maria? Were Alexander and Angelica in love? And why is Sally voiceless as the one character who is based on a person of Color? These questions are explored using a Critical Race Theory intersectional lens as well as feminist and anti-racist scholarship. - Contents: 1. Introduction -- 2. The purpose of the book is to explore the forms of leadership needed to transition a violent conflict into positive peace, and to create the social and political conditions that will sustain that peace. The study is based on the Northern Ireland peace process and explores how the quality of political leadership impacts both conflict resolution and the sustainability of a peace agreement. A phenomenon named «Acts of Leadership» will be used to demonstrate that peacemakers are not necessarily people in positions of power or authority but they bring valuable lessons for political and military leaders. The lessons learned from «The Troubles» and the subsequent Belfast/Good Friday Agreement will be used to illustrate how new forms of political leadership are needed to transform and heal a society exposed to indirect and direct violence. The contemporary issues facing political leaders in Northern Ireland will be discussed and specifically the impact of transgenerational trauma on younger generations with no lived experience of «The Troubles». - Content: Acknowledgements -- Preface -- Introduction -- CHAPTER I: Acts of leadership and sustainable peace -- CHAPTER 2: Collaborative leadership -- CHAPTER 3:Transformational leadership -- CHAPTER 4 -- Trauma-informed leadership -- CHAPTER 5: Sustainable peace and political leadership -- Postscript -- Abbreviations and political groups -- Political stakeholders (February 2024) -- Recommended reading. This volume explores the enduring influence of Introduction to the Science of Sociology, published a century ago by Robert Park and Ernest Burgess. It brings together scholars from the United States, Canada, and Italy, who collectively demonstrate the work's enduring relevance and its important role in the dialogue between European and American sociology. The contributors examine topics raised in the original text that remain as relevant as ever, including segregation, the concept of assimilation and the marginal man, subcultures, constructive isolation, collective behavior, the German roots of the Chicago School, socio-spatial evolution over time, fashion and metropolis, and social creativity from the ecological school to the digital challenge. -- Contents: Giuseppina Cersosimo: Rereading Introduction to the Science of Sociology at One Hundred. Festeinband, 22 cm. Condizione: Sehr gut. 131 p., Ill. A very good copy -- Writing for Inclusion (WIN) wishes to develop high quality and care systems in childhood education. The priority has been to sensitize very young learners towards care and inclusion. The book shows the learning modules to train teachers to tackle care in education within their classrooms. It also provides students with materials both visual and written to create texts both orally and in writing to advocate for inclusion through stories. As for digital competence, the book explores the possibilities of new technologies to engage in active citizenship. Inclusion practices to create inclusive environments, such as the integration of children with a disability or an awareness campaign for minority students are valuable because they stem from the concept of "Care", fostering empathy in 4th-year primary education students. This book is about building and implementing a methodology that interprets those special needs in four European schools and acts upon them through digital storytelling. -- Table of Contents: Mirela Canals-Botines and Nuria Medina-Casanovas: Introduction -- Rossella Certini and Christian Distefano: Educational Care: From Pedagogical Practice to Research and Professional Training Tool -- Rossella Certini and Cosimo Di Bari: Evaluation and Monitoring of Digital Storytelling Activities: The Quality of the Research of the WIN Project -- Cinta Gonzalez Garcia and Marta Ramirez Bard: eTwinning: Starting Point/Getting to Know Each Other -- Mireia Canals-Botines and Nuria Medina-Casanovas: Narrative Structures in Digital Storytelling for Young Learners: A Case Study in Writing for Inclusion -- Tetiana Barbolina, Iryna Kohut and Oksana Rudych: International Interaction within the WIN Project: Challenges and Outcomes -- Miquel Pujol-Tubau and Angel Raluy-Alonso: School Toolkit: The Quest to Create Inclusive Animated Stories in Primary Education. Hardcover, 21 cm. Condizione: Sehr gut. 222 pp., 19 fig. col., 22 fig. b/w. A very good copy. - Summary: The book presents the results of an empirical study on the relationship between Afrikaans language, identity and ethnicity from the perspective of sociolinguistics. More specifically, it deals with the Coloureds of Cape Town born after the end of apartheid (in 1994). As a methodological approach, several interviews were conducted in order to find out, from the point of view of the South Africans themselves, how these relationships take place and socially occur. The linguistic variety of Afrikaans known as Kaaps (spoken by the Coloureds) became one of the most important points of discussion since it reflects the identity of the group referred. Issues such as linguistic choices, ethnic and linguistic prejudice, as well as rejection of non-standard forms of speech came to the fore in the research. Amazing study about the "in-betweenness" of coloured substandard Afrikaans speakers, navigating between black native English speakers, the prestige language of post-apartheid South Africa, and white speakers of Afrikaans, the "language of apartheid". Hardcover. Condizione: Sehr gut. XVIII, 354 pp., 1 b/w ill. Binding rubbed and slightly bumped, otherwise a good and very clean copy. - Summary: Music, when approached as a part of a classical liberal arts education, is a profoundly humanizing endeavor which can facilitate individual musical and moral growth within communities of practice. A classical approach to music education contrasts with common progressive and critical curriculum frameworks through a philosophically realist analysis. From this perspective, a classical education serves as an induction into the liberal arts as a living tradition of cultural memory rooted in the transcendentals of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty. Further, because a classical liberal arts education is an education in virtue, it equips students to contribute to the common good as a member of their broader communities. Music education, as part of a classical education, can cultivate shared loves across political, religious, or cultural lines in a pluralist society. Studying music allows practitioners to expand the circle of internal goods of a musical tradition while respecting existing individual and community moral commitments. Students learn music classically through ethical apprenticeship, a foundational method of induction into existing musical traditions which draws its pedagogical authority from both the internal standards of the craft and the practices hierarchical relation to an external moral order. Music education ultimately contributes to the life well lived when it reflects a narrative unity encompassing myth and reason, lived virtuously through the mastery of desire as measured by normative standards that are intrinsically meaningful beyond the limitations of the self. - Table of Contents: Introduction: Pluralism, Music Education, and Philosophical Tradition -- Part One: Traditions in Development -- Chapter One: Foundations of the Western Tradition -- Western Civilization and its Traditions -- The Greek World in Context -- Plato and the Idea of Education -- Aristotle and Virtue in Community -- The Impact of Hellenization and Early Christianity -- Chapter Two: Realism and the Quest for Beauty -- The World of Christendom -- The Continuity of Tradition -- Music and the Meaningful Cosmos -- The Developing Liberal Arts -- The Humanities and their Renaissances -- Chapter Three: Reason and Inquiries for Truth -- The European Enlightenment -- Responses within the Liberal Tradition -- The Aesthetic Experience of Music -- Mechanical and Organic Pedagogy -- Music Education as Aesthetic Education -- Chapter Four: Transformation and the Will to Power -- Contours of the Critical Framework -- Critical Pedagogy -- Critical Anti-Aesthetics -- Praxial Music Education -- Liquid and Immutable Identities -- Part Two: Traditions in Operation -- Chapter Five: The Classical Tradition and Music -- The Nature of Musical Activity -- The Meaning of the Musical Work -- The Nature of Musical Listening -- Chapter Six: The Classical Tradition and Education -- The Purposes of Classical Education -- The Content of Classical Education -- Classical Education and the Common Good -- Chapter Seven: The Classical Tradition and Music Education -- The Materials of Music Education -- Methods of Music Education -- Music Education and Narrative Identity -- Conclusion: Traditions in Conflict and Dialogue -- Some Objections Considered -- Diverging Paths Forward -- Toward Dialogue and Resistance. The papers selected delve into different languages (Spanish, English, and Italian), either with a monolingual or a bilingual approach. They revolve around several parts of speech (e.g., verbs, adjectives), distinct phraseological units (e.g., collocations, compounds), and other aspects (e.g., accessibility, natural language processing) by relying on a corpus-based or corpus-driven methodology. Given the complete analysis of the main features of this language, this volume enhances the understanding of current terminology and also offers techniques that can be replicated in the study of other areas of knowledge. - TABLE OF CONTENTS: Miriam Buendia-Castro: Lexical domains in the field of adventure tourism -- Gloria Cappelli: The language of accessible adventure tourism -- Isabel Duran-Munoz and Paula Prieto Mayo: Descriptive adjectives in adventure tourism: A corpus-assisted English-Spanish contrastive study -- Patrick Goethals and Jasper Degraeuwe: Methodological advances in lexical pattern extraction: Examples from Spanish adventure tourism -- Eduardo Jose Jacinto Garcia: The argument structure ofmotion verbs in Spanish: A methodological proposal applied to DicoAdventure -- Eva Lucia Jimenez-Navarro: Prepositional phrase collocations ofmotion verbs: A corpus-driven study in adventure tourism -- Marie-Claude L'Homme: Frame Semantics and domain-specific resources -- Elena Manca: Patterns and perspectives in the language of Italian and British walking holidays -- Macarena Palma Gutierrez: Syntactic alternations with verbs ofmotion: A corpus-driven analysis ofthe language of adventure tourism -- Carmen Portero Munoz: The use of compounds in the adventure tourism lexicon. Softcover. Condizione: Gut. XVI, 104 pp. A good and clean copy. - Summary: Restrictively more than most, the collective image of Black womens identities are created by others. The glamorized life of Black women with light skin and the presumed likeness to whiteness has caused division within the Black community for years. Most often written and spoken of is the victimization of darker-hued women due to their skin tone. This thoughtful book explores colorism, which is a form of internalized racism, from the perspective of a light-skinned Black woman. By examining the social construction of race through the lens of Black Feminist Thought and Critical Race Theory the author uncovers a different narrative of colorism. Intimate accounts of skin tone stratification from Dr. Simpkins own lived experience are shared as she engages in self-awareness throughout the entire book. A critical perspective of popular culture in movies offers insight into the origination of inscribed identifies of Black women. The traditional roles of Mammy, Sapphire and Jezebel are examined to further illustrate the perpetuation of colorism. The context of this work should be understood as groundbreaking to the field of colorism. - Contents: 1. Down with Fraggle Rock: Freckles, Red Hair, and Stones -- Introduction -- 2. Softcover, 23 cm. Condizione: Sehr gut. XVIII, 260 pp., 17 fig. col., 10 fig. b/w. A perfect copy. - The essays that make up this book cover a diverse range of subjects, all broadly on the theme of child refugees from Nazism in Britain. The books three sections on displacement, children in art, and children in education and play indicate the various topics considered in the study. The authors come from different academic fields including German and Austrian exile studies, art history, language and literature, and education so each chapter offers a depth of research as well as adding to the breadth of the overarching theme. Thus far, there has been no study dedicated to examining both the experience of these refugee children and those who worked with them, and yet they and their own children live on, marked in different ways by their experience and making their own mark in British art and literature too.
