Dustjacket condition: Very good, with light shelfwear and a very small tear to top right corner of the dustjacket. 144pp. Many b/w illustrations. This was the first book to be written about the British sculptor Michael Sandle (b.1936). He is widely recognised as one of the finest sculptors in the world and one of the few contemporary artists to tackle the theme of war. He is most famous for the semi-architectural "Malta Siege-Bell Memorial" at Valetta, perhaps the finest of all World War II commemorations.

Aggiungi al carrellokart. Condizione: Gut. 144 S. : überwiegend Ill. ; 28 cm Ein gutes und sauberes Exemplar / a good and clean copy - Dt.- engl. -- "The 'Mother and child' idea is one of my two or three obsessions, one of my inexhaustible subjects. the subject itself is eternal and unending, with so many sculptural possibilities in it - a small form in relation to a big form, the big form protecting the small one, and so on. It is such a rich subject, both humanly and compositionally, that I will always go on using it. " -- Henry Moore -- Diversity and originality, change and modification from realistic to purely figurative form denote the work of Henry Moore, one of the most powerful and influential sculptors of this century. The theme of Mother and Child continued to occupy Henry Moore from the early 1920s until his last major graphic work, a series of etchings and lithographs he finished signing only a few weeks before his death in 1986. These have to date only been on major exhibition in America, and now represent the core of our exhibition here. The majority of the exhibits are from Moore's late work. The sculptures - maquettes, small creations made in the artist's hand, as well as the working models ( the 8 to 10 times enlargements made in conjunction with his sculpture assistants ) - are examples of his creativity from the post-war period up until the 1980s. As well as other etchings and lithographs, the exhibition includes drawings made between 1979 and 1982, many of which were reworked by Moore as graphics. -- The Henry Moore exhibition presented here is the first for eight years in Germany. The initiative is that of the Kunstkreis Norden and the cultural department of Kreis Unna. The Käthe Kollwitz Museum in Cologne and the Ernst Barlach Museum - Altes Vaterhaus in Ratzeburg complete the exhibition venues particularly aptly as they are devoted to the two major German artistic colleagues of Henry Moore. We are pleased too that the last venue will be the City Art Gallery in Huddersfield, a town twinned with Kreis Unna. -- All the works in this exhibition are on loan from the Henry Moore Foundation. Founded in 1977 the Foundation owns, thanks to the great generosity of Henry Moore, over 12,000 works by the artist: 3,000 drawings, over 8,000 graphic works.
