The result is a book with little in common with most other books on the subject. The ordinary perturbation-theoretic calculations are not very useful in this field. Those methods have never led to propositions of much substance. Even when perturbation series, which for the most part never converge, can be given some asymptotic meaning, it cannot be determined how close the nth order approximation comes to the exact result. Since analytic solutions of nontrivial problems are beyond human capabilities, for better or worse we must settle for sharp bounds on the quantities of interest, and can at most strive to make the degree of accuracy satisfactory. 304 pp. Englisch.

In this review studies of CBF and CMRO2 during… craniotomy have been performed with the classical technique described by Kety and Schmidt. In chapter 1 general considerations concerning the effects of anaesthetics on cerebral blood flow and metabolism are reviewed. In chapters 2 and 3 the effects of inhalation agents and hypnotics on flow and metabolism are considered. Chapters 4 and 5 cover the effects of central analgetics, and neuromuscular blocking agents. In chapter 6 the effects of other drugs in common use in neuroanaesthetic practice are summarized. Chapter 7 considers the effects of drugs used for controlled hypotension. In chapter 8 the application of Kety's method in studies of CBF and metabolism is reviewed, the studies of cerebral circulation and metabolism during nine different techniques of anaesthesia for craniotomy are presented, and other studies of cerebral circulation during neuroanaesthesia are reviewed. In chapter 9 considerations concerning central and cerebral hemodynamics during anaesthesia in the sitting position are considered. This review is primarily addressed to anaesthetists, but it will also be of interest to those working within neurosurgery, neuroradiology and clinical neurophysiology. 172 pp. Englisch.

Ni chain complexes with strong electron correlations show tremendous third-order optical nonlinearity and nonlinear electrical conductivities. They satisfy the requirements for low power consumption, medium integration, low cost in large quantities, and high-speed operation capabilities in circuits. In the very high-frequency range, cut-off frequencies up to 500 GHz [557] have been reported on the device level. HEMTs and HBTs are very suitable for high efficiency power amplifiers at 900 MHz as well as for data rates higher than 100 Gbitfs for long-range communication and thus cover a broad range of appli cations. To cope with explosive development costs and the competition of today's semicon ductor industry, Technology Computer-Aided Design (TCAD) methodologies are used extensively in development and production. As of 2003, III-V semiconductor HEMT and HBT micrometer and millimeter-wave integrated circuits (MICs and MMICs) are available on six-inch GaAs wafers. SiGe HBT circuits, as part of the CMOS technology on eight-inch wafers, are in volume production. Simulation tools for technology, devices, and circuits reduce expensive technological efforts. This book focuses on the application of simulation software to heterostructure devices with respect to industrial applications.
