The last book written by legendary 38-confirmed-kill British RAF WW2 ace Air Vice-Marshal J E 'Johnnie' Johnson, this time co-written with friend and ace Wing Commander 'Laddie' Lucas. Covers the European air war primarily from the British perspective, but with a tribute to the work of the USAAF 8th Air Force - as well as to the work of NZ, Australian, Canadian and US airmen flying with the RAF fighter force. Covers from the Battle of Britain, the fighter offensive of 1941, the desperate defence of Malta, and from Normandy to the end of the Third Reich. Includes some German perspectives from post war friendships with the likes of Gen Adolph Galland, their major rival during hostilities. Air Vice Marshal James Edgar Johnson, CB, CBE, DSO & Two Bars, DFC & Bar, DL, nicknamed "Johnnie", was an English Royal Air Force pilot and flying ace who flew and fought during the Second World War. Johnson grew up and was educated in the East Midlands, where he qualified as an engineer. Percy Belgrave Lucas, CBE, DSO & Bar, DFC (2 September 1915 20 March 1998), commonly known as Laddie Lucas, was a Royal Air Force officer.
