This book is important because it provides us with a graphic eyewitness account by one who was there at the 'sharp end'. George Forty, well known in his own right as an author, and formerly director of the Tank Museum at Bovington, has edited Leakey's autobiography, setting the scene to each chapter and placing the events of the war within their strategic contexts. The result is an extraordinary story of one man's war and a unique testomony to a soldier who contributed in no uncertain way to victory over the Axis powers in the Second World War.
