Autorenporträt: Pitigrilli, Pseudonym des italienischen Schriftstellers Dino Segre, wurde 1893 in Turin geboren, wo er auch 1975 starb. Bevo…r er 1940 Lina Furlan heiratete, Italiens erste Rechtsanwältin an einem Schwurgericht, galt Pitigrilli als Salonlöwe und war längere Zeitmit der mondänen Dichterin Amalia Guglielminetti liert. Bis Mitte der dreißiger Jahre schrieb er zahlreiche, heftig diskutierte Bücher und erwarb literarischen Ruhm. Als 1939 auch in Italien die Rassengesetze in Kraft traten, mußte er wegen seiner jüdischen Herkunft auswandern, zunächst in die Schweiz, dann nach Argentinien.
