A catalog to a 1960 exhibition of the paintings of Giuseppe Santomaso, with an essay by Lionello Venturi on his life and work. Giuseppe Santomaso was an Italian painter from the mid 20th century, being a founding member of the antifascist artists' organization Nuova Secessione Artistica Italiana-Fronte Nuovo delle Arti in Venice (see Guggenheim Museum's website). GOOD condition. Wrappers toned, with minor soiling and a few dark scuffs. Some wrinkling to the wrappers.

September 1907 in Venedig, Italien; 23. Mai 1990 in Venedig) war ein italienischer Maler. Santomaso ist 1946 Mitbegründer der progressiven italienischen Künstlergruppe 'Nouva Secessione artistica italiana'. Diese Gruppe wird später in 'Fronte Nuovo delle Arti' umbenannt. Das Ziel dieser Künstlergruppe ist, eine Provinzialisierung der italienischen Kunst zu verhindern. Im Jahr 1948 allerdings spaltet sich der ' Fronte Nuovo delle Arti ' in zwei Lager: In die Vertreter der Realistischen Kunst und der Abstrakten Kunst. Santomaso gehört zur Fraktion der Abstrakten. Diese Gruppe nennt sich im Jahr 1952 'Gruppo degli otto Pittori Italiani' ("Gruppo degli Otto"). Von 1954 bis 1974 ist Santomaso als Lehrer an den Accademie di Belle Arti tätig und er beteiligt sich im selben Zeitraum dreizehnmal an der Biennale von Venedig.
