Difficult to find program from the seventh Walker Cup matches held at the Country Club in Brookline, Mass, 1932. 16 pages. Program was pasted into a scrapbook at one time, thus the back cover has paper on it as seen in the associated image. Additionally, one page has a picture from a newspaper pasted in which has caused some paper loss on the adjacent page. The program is signed by Bobby Jones, Francis Ouimet (the U.S. captain) and Cyril Tolley. Ouimet was a popular and historic choice as captain of the U.S. team since his epic win at the U.S. Open was at Brookline in 1913. In early Walker Cups, including this one, the captains played in the matches. Ouimet participated in 12 Walker Cups as either a player or a captain. There are 21 signatures in the program in total including from the British team: John T. Bookless, John DeForest, Rex Hartley, John Burke, Eric Fiddian, E. McRuvie, Leonard Crawley, Lister Hartley and J. A. Stout. Signatures from the US team: George Dunlap, Jess Sweetser, Billy Howell, Don Moe, George Voigt, Harrison Johnston, Charles Seaver, Jack Westland and Gus Moreland. Charles Seaver was the father of the baseball great Tom Seaver. Cyril Tolley was a leading amateur player in the 1920s. He won the British Amateur in 1920 at Muirfield and in 1929 at Royal St. Georges. He also won the French Open in 1924 and 1928. He was defeated by Bobby Jones on the 37th hole of the 1930 British Amateur, the first leg of Jones' Grand Slam that year. He would go on to become captain of the R & A. Leonard Crawley was obviously a proficient golfer to have been on the British team, but he is better known as a cricket player. The U.S. beat Great Britain & Ireland 8 to 1 in the matches, thereby winning the first seven Walker Cups. The 7th Walker Cup was notable for two additional reasons. First, there was a total eclipse of the sun in Boston of the sun during the practice round on August 31st, and Leonard Crowley hit a shot so far off line that it hit the Walker Cup trophy, which was out on display, and put a dent in it. with a 4-iron (the club has been preserved for prosperity). He was ironically the only British play to win a match! A significant and difficult to find program, greatly enhanced by the rare signature on it, including Bobby Jones. The program also contains pictures of the secretary of the R & A and the president of the USGA and articles about the Walker Cup by Bobby Jones, Francis Ouimet and Bernard Darwin.
