Climate change represents the most severe danger that humanity and numerous other species inhabiting planet Earth confront today. Unprecedented climatic phenomena, ranging from elevated temperatures to extreme weather fluctuations such as hurricanes, floods, droughts, rampant wildfires, induce ecological devastation, loss of life and sustenance, involuntary displacement both domestically and internationally, and the rise of authoritarian populist factions on either side of the Atlantic. These phenomena demand the attention of scholars from diverse academic disciplines. The essays compiled in this book, authored by reputable scholars, endeavor to tackle and offer insight into the factors, dynamics, and consequences, including trans-Atlantic relations, of what is recognized as an urgent crisis. From the legacy of colonialism and imperialism to the contemporary forces of neoliberalism and globalization, asymmetrical power structures and unsustainable consumption patterns lie at the core, constituting fundamental aspects necessary to understand one of the foremost collective action dilemmas of the twenty-first century. Additionally, a critical examination of the unequal impacts of environmental degradation on marginalized groups, resulting from systems of oppression based on factors such as race, gender, and class, is presented.
