Large octavo, two volumes, original cloth lettered and with the coat of arms of British Columbia in gilt on the front panels. The first volume 459 pp., heavily illustrated, Index at rear; the second volume a portfolio of 12 maps and 2 photographic panoramas (complete), housed in a folding solander case with matching binding to match the first volume. Rubbing to the edges of the cardboard sides and small splits to part of the top folds of the portfolio volume; overall a lovely, attractive set, with the bookplates designed by Thoreau MacDonald of Duart A. MacLean, Royal Oak (Victoria), Vancouver Island, BC to the endpapers of each volume. While not an uncommon set, a great many copies show up incomplete - lacking maps in the portfolio, or lacking the portfolio altogether. Our copy is complete, the maps are perfect and unused, and it is in remarkably nice condition. Arthur Oliver Wheeler was a land surveyor who surveyed large areas of Western Canada. In 1906, he and journalist Elizabeth Parker were the principal founders of the Alpine Club of Canada, and he was its first president, from 1906 to 1910; he was the editor of the Canadian Alpine Journal from 1907 to 1930. Mount Wheeler in the Selkirk Mountains is named after him. Codice articolo 314362
