A union co-worker suggested that he take up painting as a way to exercise his fingers and ease the pain. In 1945, Fasanella persuaded the UE to organize painting classes for its members at a local college. He was one of the first members to sign up for classes. Fasanella became consumed by art, and left labor union organizing to paint full-time. To pay the bills, he bought a service station and worked there. Fasanella's painting focused on city life, men and women at work, union meetings, strikes, sit-ins and baseball games. He quickly developed a style which spoke to workers and the poor through the use of familiar details. Fasanella improvised a quasi-surrealist style, depicting interiors and exteriors or past and future simultaneously. He painted canvases as big as 10 feet across because he envisioned his paintings hanging in large union meeting halls. 'I always felt embarrassed by the whole thing,' he said, 'but I had to do it.' Fasanella's art was highly improvisational. He never planned out works, and rarely revised them. He said of his 1948 painting May Day, it 'just came out of my belly. I never planned it. Fred Stiven è stato un artista, insegnante e poliedrico studioso che ha influenzato una generazione di artisti e designer.Nato a Fife, ha studiato alla Thurrock School di Grays, nell'Essex, e alla Beath High School di Cowdenbeath, prima di studiare design all'Edinburgh College of Art dal 1946 al 1950 sotto la guida di Leonard Rosoman e John Kingsley Cook. Nel 1950-51 gli è stata assegnata una borsa di studio post-laurea.Prima di prestare servizio militare nell'esercito, Fred Stiven era docente di tipografia. Congedato dall'esercito, ha lavorato per quattro anni presso la Fife Education Authority, entrando a far parte dello staff della Gray's School of Art di Aberdeen nel 1958. April 1929 in Saint-Imier; ? 11. Mai 1997 in Basel) Schweizer Maler, Lithograf und Zeichner.Richterich verbrachte seine Kindheit in Saint-Imier und studierte d…anach angewandte Kunst am Kantonalen Technikum in Biel (heute: Berner Fachhochschule Technik und Informatik) und absolvierte eine Lehre als Zeichner-Lithograf. 1952 liess er sich im französischen Saint-Rémy-de-Provence nieder und realisierte ab dann zahlreiche Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen im In- und Ausland. 1954 und 1955 erhielt er jeweils ein Stipendium der Eidgenössischen Kunstkommission. Ab 1958 wirkte und lebte er auch in Basel, wo er 1997 verstarb. Seine Bilder sind heute in öffentlichen Kunstsammlungen in Basel, Biel und Lausanne sowie in verschiedenen Privatsammlungen verteilt.Richterichs Werk umfassen häufig Aktporträts sowie Städtebilder, die von seinen vielen Reisen durch Mitteleuropa zeugen. Charakteristisches Wiedererkennungsmerkmal seiner Bilder ist eine rau gezeichnete Sonne resp. Mond. Weitere Werke sind u.a. ein Mosaik für die Schule Gwatt (Thun) sowie sechs glasgemalte Kirchenfenster für die christkatholische Kirche in Biel. 1100 gr. Schlagworte: Grafik - nach 1945.
